You're glorifying the era. Sure, there were some nice jumps made, but there were a lot of fucking rehashes, just like there are now. In about 10 years, people will look back and say the same thing you've just said, and be just as wrong.

True, there were rehashes... it may just be that many of my favorite games are from the 32/64 bit generation. Still, you had games like Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, FFVII, Gran Turismo, Red Alert, Quake (and with it, Team Fortress)... the list goes on and on. All of them redefined their respective genres back then, and the standards they set back then still exist today for many of those said genres.

Microsoft has figured out the online multiplayer community hands down. Love them or hate them Microsoft proved that consoles CAN be just as fun online as a PC. Nintendo doesn't have that "online multiplayer" thing down yet but they are getting there. The Wii is innovative but probably the best example of repetitive. There are few titles for the console that aren't movie-to-game, anime-to-game, or cartoon-to-game which all by pure coincidence happen to require you to use the motion sensing. Don't get me wrong I love my Wii but I've had more fun with it playing Smash than I have with any of the new controls. Few developers have taken off with the Wii in an innovative way. All fighting games for the Wii are the same. I keep buying them thinking "This will be different!" but it isn't.

That was the almost-final model for Gordon Freeman before they made him a rat-tailed redhead.

Van Damme never gets old.

You want original, play Beyond Good & Evil on the PS2 or XBOX.

This shows you the intelligence of Ubisoft. Play the game (it will take you, maybe, 8-16 hours to beat depending on your skill).

Then you will realize how smart Ubisoft is since they still haven't made the sequels.

Tried Halo 3 yesterday, it sucked. Pissed some fanboy off at school when I said that. Seriously, that is the epitome of mediocrity. I couldn't finish the campaign on the PC.

Halo multiplayer is great and fun. The hype comes in when the guys who only play multiplayer start telling everyone how great the single player is. The storyline is decent but not original or deep and certainly didn't merit the books written based on it. I would not mind (and would buy) a Halo multiplayer released every few years provided it improved each time and the price wasn't above $35. Halo multiplayer improved with Halo 2 but Halo 3 multiplayer was not an upgrade. Halo multiplayer fits more in the category of Mario Party, WarioWare, Fusion Frenzy, ect. Great games to play with a group of friends, not that great to play by yourself for long periods of time.

Well Halo 3 did add Forge or whatever it's called. Not a lotta games have built-in editors that are remotely decent anymore - not on consoles, at least.

That's probably Halo 3's biggest asset.

I heard it was good, but I've never been able to get my hands on it.

Now Perfect Dark, that was some good shit right there. The Farsight is practically cheating.

I sucked at Perfect Dark, but was awesome at Goldeneye. I don't understand that since the controls are identicle.

The result was me hating Perfect Dark, sadly. I couldn't enjoy it even when I played single player.

As far as Halo goes. Compared to most console FPS's it's really very good. If you strip your opinions away and look at the things it offers in a cold way there is something there. I'm not gonna say it's changed the genre. It hasn't. But it exists as a community. It's the first time that's really happened with a console game. PC's have a really easy way into the hearts of community since everything is done with easy acess to a keyboard, mouse, mic and forums/chatrooms. Consoles don't have all that. Halo managed to attract enough people and have a certain multiplayer that just scored with the crowd. The addition of Forge in Halo 3 not to mention the intense improvement of graphics makes the Halo3 mulitplayer great fun and a huge difference from its predecessors.

As I said, my biggest and probably only problem with the game is that my friends think it is 100% original when it's not. I can't say that anything it does hasn't been done before by a game. However, I can say that the parts worth mentioning were never done on a console before. Even Half-Life sucked when it was ported to console. That's a hard game to make suck.

Don't get me wrong I'm not preaching superiority over here. Halo's not amazing, but it's more than mediocre in the coldest sense. If you don't enjoy it, then by all means don't play it you're certainly entitled to an opinion of the game play and story. But give the game the few things it has.

Time Splitters 2 is probably available at your local second-hand gaming store for $20. Do some looking around.

Also, fuck Perfect Dark.
