I agree, what is so bad about soldiers that make them below us? They do us a great service by putting their lives at risk to protect ours. A country without a military or allies with a strong military just screams "invade us".

You know...

Well, let's just say that you wouldn't put up anti-gun signs on your house in a really bad neighborhood, would you?

Innoc, don't read into one person's argument and get pissed off when someone does it to you.

Easy there, hot shot. I'm not saying anyone is less for being in the military. They are heroes for defending our country and should be treated as such (unlike how our government treats veterans). I said I'd rather have someone who is trained as a firefighter/EMT (specializes in civilian setting emergency response) to respond in a civilian setting to a civilian emergency than someone "who has been screwed by the military". They were screwed. That doesn't say any less of them, it says less of our government. It doesn't mean that there aren't some military people who would do just fine. It means itd be better than someone who been screwed by the military. Please read what I write if you are going to criticize it.
What I have I done that is honorable? Cheap shot there - in case you forgot, we're discussing and not mud-slinging. But just so you don't think I'm some 15-year-old slinging around what I read on blogs: Hmm.. aside from saving lives, working assorted jobs, feeding families, dissenting, educating, loving, respecting people... oh man, should I keep going or stop?

State EMS? Military people are trained in military settings primarily. Civilian EMS are trained in civilian settings primarily. When you are on a battlefield, you don't always have an ambulance that will be there momentarily, the same supplies you have in civilian settings, or the same injuries.

You act like you've bought into the Conservative/liberal BS. So to be Conservative or a Republican or to be in the military is to be against freedom and opportunity. Hmmn...wasn't Lincoln Republican?
No, I'm using the popular liberal/conservative terms to argue against your claims that a 'pants pissing liberal' couldn't respond to an emergency. Where did I say conservatives are against freedom and opportunity? Historically liberals are the ones that toss shit in the air and revolt to get more freedom. The popular conception of the political continuum is from reactionary on the far right (want no change and maybe even regression to past social customs) all the way to radicals on the far right, who want complete destruction of our society and its replacement. Near the middle is 'conservative' and 'liberal' by traditional definitions, with conservatives being 'conservative' and not wanting much change and 'liberals' wanting to try something new. For Lincoln, he said hed do anything to keep the union together, regardless of slavery. The 'liberals' were the ones who were so uppity about that Peculiar Institution.

I don't know if you know, sir, but some of the people who've gotten kicked off campuses for counter-recruitment are veterans of the Iraq war.

By using phrases like 'pants-pissing liberal' you are insulting people rather than discussing the matter at hand. that is, by my definition, being a prick just to get a rise out of others.

I am not going to argue with you on the military and your term of being "screwed" by it. It seems clear that you're largely ignorant of the military, the training and the inherent culture there. Hopefully as you reach your 20's, 30's and beyond you will learn. As a long time employer and a veteran as well I'll take someone from the military 100x over someone from the civilian sector with equal credentials/experience.

Blindly labeling and disregarding me using populist terms is as stupid as simply applying "Christian" to me and moving on. Ignorant stereotyping fit's very few of a select group well enough to be fitting. But as you label military people as being "screwed" this is no surprise either.

"Pants Pissing Liberal" is a term that does NOT apply to the entire group but a particular segment. The "pant's pissers" and "bed wetters" don't speak for all Liberals but they act as if they do and ignore the fact that they are a microscopic but vocal minority. There are differences between Conservatives as well. I'm not saying it to be a prick....but, as noted above...you're applying the label simply to insult.

I applaud military recruiters, even though they are kinda manipulative. Somebody has to go door to door and recruit people. Our Army creates millions of jobs. My father is a retired bird colonel and he earns a ton of money. He immeadetely went into partnership with a company because of his credentials. And now he recieves a fat retirement check regurlally, and he never saw combat, barely fired a gun. All I have known was military being in a military family. In fact the military is paying for my college right now, full ride.

Of course no one likes war. I dont support the war, but Im sure as hell not going to shit all over the soldiers over there and here. I support the troops that go over there for people that dont like them, thats a rough job. War sucks...alot. You dont have to enjoy the game, but if your not going to root for the home team, get the fuck out of the stadium. (quote from somewhere I cant remember)

I'm glad the UK military don't do these sort of things, they may come around the schools when people are ready to do the whole University or Work thing but thats about it, even then you usually have to ask for them.

They don't force you into anything, you watch a little video, ask some questions and thats it. You don't get harrassed walking around by recruiters in the mall or town. If they did they'd probably not get a nice response.

I tried to get in to the military... mainly because I was having severe mental problems at the time. And well, I got all the way through to my medical check and they took one look at my knee and told me to go home. Sucks.... I so wanted to fire a tank round. BOOM! heh heh heh heh

Why? had you been self harming? carved 'Allahu akbar!' into it? You don't even get a 3rd strike if you do something like that

Glad to hear the taxpayer's hard earned money is being put to good use. 'Bout doing something about your ridiculous poverty rates, instead of having your army's useless endevours cost you a fortune.
