We've actually got a good clan showing. [sYn], /KBN/, .fx, and {NFO} have all shown themselves (as far as US clans go). I'm sorry, :e0: has also made some appearances. I enjoy the thought of having organized play on a daily basis.

Hey guys.
The channel seems to be doing great and is gaining support every day. Hopefully this trend continues. Thanks to everyone who helped out while I was gone. I'll be back at home tomorrow (Friday) night.

I think it was Mad Clog (?) - but wouldn't it make sense to combine efforts instead of having competing pickup chans? Maybe you could have a botnet spanning the two networks and enabling people from both chans to play in the same game..?

A bot spanning across the two networks would be ambitious to say the least, though. I don't know how well it would work (has some troubles dealing with just one network at the moment), but it would be really interesting.

Ok, i haven't been a heavy IRC / bot user in ages, but 'back in the day' it was definitely possible to link up eggdrop bots, therefore spanning several networks. They'd have to share their userfile, and one of the two would probably need to understand and relay the !commands to the other, and then echo the output.. seems fairly simple in my mind, but i haven't messed with eggdrops in a while.. and reality would always cut through my ingenious botschemes.

No idea what you mean by eggdrop bots, but I would assume that it is possible to span across a couple networks. The major issue I see is pertaining specifically to the bot having to deal with pickup games. It would be incredibly difficult to manage a pickup game when some players are on quakenet and some are on gamesurge. Let's say 7/8 players are added on gamesurge and the admin is also on gamesurge. Then, one player on quakenet adds and fills the pickup. The bot sends the PMs, but it fails getting sent to the guy on quakenet. That guy is pretty much out of all contact with the other players, unless he either moves to gamesurge or a fellow player is also on quakenet. It seems easier for everyone if whoever wants to play either switches to the correct network or doesn't play at all. It doesn't take a whole lot to connect to gamesurge and join a channel...
Sorry if I seem too cynical of the idea. Trying this out would only mean more work for me, and I barely have time to work on FF_Torch at all as is. I want to get a solid bot complete and then I'll consider something more ambitious in the future. A second, seperate channel for quakenet would be no problem though. It would just use a clone of the bot. Quote:

6 users on Gamesurge add up - this info gets echoed to the Quakenet channel in the exact same way as it's output in the Gamesurge channel (6 of 8 players, map ff_startec, etc).. now two users on Quakenet add up as well, the Qnet bot tells the GS bot to add another two, pickup closed, info gets PM'd by the respective bots.. in theory it shouldn't be too hard - the admin could even use a !talk trigger to relay information through the botnet to the other network. Obviously the easier solution would be to switch networks, but there are definitely people that hang on Qnet exclusively. Quote:

Oh well. When I made most of the functionality of this bot (it was originally a DotA pickup bot) I had looked for something like eggdrop, but I never found it. The bots running pretty well though right now... just a few more things to fix.
