He did say he wasn't going to sell it as a mod. Now that he has the Uncompiled Source Code, he can make his own game without the limits of the SDK, and that itself is worth $10,000 or so. So theres more to this then it just being a "sellout" .

As for your conspiracy theory lawyer bullshit, WTF? Valve is one of the most mod-supportive developers out there, so it doesn't follow that they're going to use legal muscle to get a worthless mod that they already own the property to. Garry's mod is basically Ragdoll Kung Fu, a mod made that Valve thinks that the developer has the potential to and has bought. Garry isn't doing this to make money off of Gmod, he did it for the unlimited source code that he's going to use to make an actual game. Yeah, he's a lying POS but he did it for an understandable reason. You obviously have a fear of Valve and Lawyers. "I must seek Buddha. I must seek Christ." "...You must seek therapy." |

ok, i know im taking the bait again, but under the small chance that you really didn't know this, valve created steam. they're the same company (actually to be exact, steam is a service of valve, not a company).

I'd personally like to know when Steam became a separate entity from Valve, Lazy Eye. Please show documentation of this (websites, PDFs, interviews, etc).

One hour ago I was like... "Hmm, I need to see it before this guy gets my ten bucks."
Now I've seen some secret screenshots of it (sorry, can't link you to them), and I've told myself that I'll pay $10 for the next version of Garry's Mod even though I haven't played Gmod 9 for three months now. When Garry gets the full source, he will be able to do stuff we can't even imagine (I know, it's kinda scary.) And not only Garry will get access to creepy functions deeply buried in the source, Lua developers will also get an access to the engine that is very low level (at least compared to the level Lua for Gmod 9 is on). I'll buy Gmod 10, and I'll buy it for all the gamemodes 'Team Garry' will produce, but also as a developer for the engine bindings and other functions available through Lua. Anyway, just my five cents. // Mortal. |

Yeah, the next/retail version of Garry's Mod is gonna be pretty awesome compared to the old/free versions we've had so far...and gmod will get even better with each update (just like before, only more door on the core floor of torn aborted baby smores, what?). I say that just because of the gmod dev shit I've casually been following...like how they basically remade the lua implementation to be a lot more awesome...check out this kickass thread that's related to this kickass blog post (where something big with Valve happens to be mentioned as well...which I remember readin' and thinkin' maybe gmod would become freely distributed through Steam...so close, but I lose).
I think selling Garry's Mod will only make it a lot better, because they'll be able to treat their Garry's Mod work like an actual game development job instead of just some hobby done in their spare time. I hope that also means high quality official maps being made for Garry's Mod, but I have no idea...they should do that, but I don't know if that's their goal. Fortress Forever will always be free, though. So don't get it twisted by thinkin' I want Fortress Forever to be sold just because Garry's Mod is being sold. Annnnywho... |
