A/D ppl are less important anyways.
Just kidding, its just that, when I used to play I was thinking that A/D was for ppl that didn't know how to defend a base as a team and were only good at spamming the flag. A/D is probably going to be the most popular gameplay in FF though. With all the new players coming from other simpler games out there... A/D is more attractive than CTF for newbies that's for sure. |

Smack isn't a nobuddy.
Infact, I was hoping Smack would have done a crazy POTW for FF I mean c'mon man, you're a genius with art - Dust2Dust, the potw's jeeesh. But - I totally 100% trust Smack's interpretations - like I said, he has a great eye. Hopefully he wasn't shy when suggesting anything about the maps, lighting, color, material changes, etc. Doesn't matter that Smack doesn't Bhop in TFC - tbh, I hate the fact I HAVE to, to even compete in 2a!!! So don't be thinking Smack didn't deserve a Beta slot. My question is, Will you supply your models and such to Gary's Mod? Maps and the liking? I have some crazy ideas for some .avi's using Gmod v10 if only it was with TFC/FF..... I'm patiently waiting for FF - |

Our beta tester selection "system" is essentially based on cronyism except without too much of the disregard toward qualifications.
I think in Smack's case, it was about his TFC experience, his interest in FF, his kickass videos, and how some of us have known (or at leasts known of) him for a while. Speakin' of his kickass videos, here's Dust to Dust (it's a huge download). Which...the main reason why that gigantic video is on trepid.net is because of this little map that Jesse and I made for Smack for that video...and also because we switched hosts and wanted to utilize trepid.net's bigger storage capacity. And yeah, Smack's reason for not playing cz2 is exactly what we have to fix. TFC's cz2 was a pretty underplayed, boring map...so we're hoping to make ff_cz2 less boring in any ways that we can. Trying to get rid of annoyances, because annoyances just drive players away. |

It's pathetic how all you guys cry about how the 'beta selection procedure' isn't fair and that it made you cry in real life: GET OVER IT and be happy for the ones beta-testing.

This game just is a little harder than cs and stuff, so you will have maps that don't work as well/at all on public servers... I had some really great and enjoyable matches on CZ2 (Fullcap in a war feels great ^_^) Btw. before you start (or go on) whining about not being in the beta just know that your chance of getting in is definitely way higher than mine ^_^ Hell, I'd understand if there was no download available for rannibunny as soon as the game is finished o_O I sure as hell wouldn't allow me to play! |

Interesting to see the views of a beta tester. Looking forward to FF quite a bit now
Quite honestly, if you didnt get selected for a beta, get over it. You'll be playing it in a few months and then you wont really care. More beta tester posts i say! How does dm feel in general? |

Excellent update; this is the sort of thing I needed to hear to maintain my interest and excitement.
On the subject of the HWGuy, I hope that his missing head is currently an error model... |

if anything I think the Beta testing should have as many 'newbies' as possible so that there is no distorted view on the problems with the game and its features.
eg. what would a newbies reaction be to people bunnyhopping all over the place... what would the reaction be to the usefulness of the training features...etc this game is intended to be appealable to newbies, right? |

If they are taught bunnyhopping from the beginning, how long will it take, etc... Ahh, I forgot something important: I never played any TF before, didn't even hear about it, so I'm a newbie and therefore should be added to the beta-squad ^_^ Oh damn. This time I got carried away quite a bit too far, even for me (I'm allowed to get carried away further than you!) so I've moved this post into a new thread ^_^ http://forums.fortress-forever.com/s...ead.php?t=7287 Last edited by o_rannibunny; 12-01-2006 at 09:59 AM. |

as for FF feedback, i'm slowly letting my more critical feelings out as i find them. tester selection? i think a good mix of fresh, and accomplished players is critical, and that's exactly what we have. also, there are quite a few like myself who haven't played properly in many years. i myself have all but lost the skills i once had baack in the day, but vaguely remember what the dynamics of the game were like. leakage: pyrojumps are AWESOME! pyro can really move around now, just at quite a cost to H/A. tried them last night after being demonstrated last night by a fellow tester, and i can EASILY get from the SD2 yard to the roof. i'll leave a dev post any media. It bothers me that some people here have to be so infantile whenever anyone pipes up having played a bit of FF. "OH NOES UR NOT SPESHAL BUT I AM, I KNOW BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!11!". Clue for you:- skills like being able to read/write HTML or assembly language or Kentuckian will not help you beta test a complex game like any built on the Source engine.
How about you consider why it is that you haven't seen FF yet:- It is not complete; There are things missing; trepid_jesse said so. Now, hypothesize for a moment that you (yes, you) are the leader of the free world. George W. Bush is an example of a person in such a position. Therefore, all the pretty people below you in the hierarchy of command are gonna treat you like George W. Bush and not show you things until they are fully tested, so you won't either hurt yourself, start a war or complain. So, the crux of the matter:- the FF development team and their associates (including beta testers that so far aren't you) are working for you. They are doing this because they love you and want to hold you soooo tender. Sit down and stfu. |

I don't know what's the grief with cz2, i played it all the time (meaning when a server actually had it on). I liked the slower paced gameplay, heavily relying on tactics and teamplay. I think one of the best parts were squads forming "on their own" to escort a flagcarrier that was naturally extremely weak on its own, etc..
It's true though that it really got bad the last years as the few times the map actually popped up somewhere, no one knew what to do or ever tried to understand what was going on with the flags. (I'm talking about pubs here, I never played clan) I must agree that cz2 wasn't easy to get into though, it hadn't one of those gameplay you immediately picked up. On the other hand maybe everyone hated the slower gameplay, me being one of the few that actually prefer it to spastic bhop at 500 kph (which I like too actually). |
