The Full Metal Panic! animes (Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, and Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid) have good action and comedy interspersed. Definitely the first set of anime I recommend to anyone wishing to expand their horizons.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi is very surreal and weird but also funny. Ditto for Fooly Cooly (often misspelled as Furi Kuri, which is how it is pronounced, but yeah).

Welcome to the NHK! is funny and full of occasionally crazy things like a talking microwave.

Great Teacher Onizuka... lollerskates. Very exaggerated and lots of slapstickish comedy.

Escaflowne is pretty much a work of art.

Fate Stay Night has good action and storyline... for an anime whose storyline was taken from a hentai game, it actually came out really good.

Peacemaker Kurogane is an all around good story with some humor and action in it.

That's my short list right there. Yes, that is the SHORT list.

But yeah, if you are looking for something good to watch right now, start with Full Metal Panic! or Escaflowne.

Claymore is picking up pace nicely with Claire's character development

Haruhi 2, that could be nice. No sighting of its initial air dates though.
Watched the first episode of higurashi 2. Fuck Yes.
Has nobody else watched higurashi 1? Am I the only one that likes weird horrors?

Yea unfortunately the next set of books that would normally of been the next season for the first time ever ends in a cliffhanger supposedly. Instead of the usual "semi closure" that they can end on and have the next be a few months later kinda thing. And the set of books that storyline goes into wont be fully released till like November/December. And I doubt they would make it a cliffhanger so chances are if their makin another, it will be another 20somethin episode one that covers both book sets.

Kinda sucks since its not a traditional series, so you never really know for sure if their gonna pick up the next chapter in the series or not. But this is also better then them goin "Hey the first ones did god, lets just have our writers pick up from here" somethin just about every single anime ever that was adapted from a manga/book has done.

BTW, you forgot Trigun on your awesomeness list :P
