Widgets, Windowblinds, StyleXP, etc...? - Page 2

Okay, I tried Aston and I fucking hated it. Here, I'll just share the feedback I gave them about the program:

Reason Uninstalled: Did Not Like Interface
Very annoying from the start. Could not select multiple items on the desktop. Desktop items were not all showing up. Difficulty loading custom themes; they didn't load, and didn't show up on the desktop even though I had saved them there. Yahoo Widgets did not show up. WAY too many menus- and most of them are redundant, or for options (control panel, etc.) that you hardly need on your desktop.

Worse, when I went back to my Explorer desktop it was a total mess- icons everywhere, my custom icons were gone, the wallpaper was gone, the theme was screwed up color-wise, and I still have the stupid custom cursor. Uninstalling the program did NOT fix any of these problems, so now I have to set up my desktop all over again. You should warn people how much this will mess up their current settings, I am really annoyed and I can't see recommending this program to anyone. Now I get to spend the next hour fixing everything your program screwed up.

i use tune up just to change the icon sizes and round of the corners and such

i used to use windowblinds but i have enough crap running already lol
my desk top is just basic so theres no point in me posting it up lol i have a bout 6 icons on the desktop and that is it

Eh it's okay, maybe I just wasn't patient enough. I still don't get the deal with not all of my desktop items showing up, though.

I am, just looking for something to make the desktop look a bit prettier.

Going to try VirtuaWin tomorrow, see if that works well (for multiple virtual desktops).

Okay... it works, but it doesn't do everything I thought it did. It only works with applications and open windows. So you could have a bunch of work applications and windows open on one desktop, and all your casual stuff on another, etc.

What it doesn't do- each desktop still has the same junk on it. So, I can't have a custom desktop that just has all my mapping files on it, like you could if each was actually a separate display. Which is what I really wanted

What I might do is just put all of the stuff in a folder, then maximize that folder and use it like it's the desktop. I'm having trouble customizing the folder, though. I want to add a custom background etc. so it looks more like a desktop with a wallpaper, but I'm not getting this option for some reason:

Looked at Altdesk's page again, doesn't sound like it does what I want, either.

Sorry, but when I think "virtual desktop" I think the actual desktop... not just another place to have a bunch of windows open and cause more confusion :/

It's odd, but tbh I always thought it was pretty nice. In this case, I wanted it so I could make a maximized folder look like a regular desktop :/

I use the hacked UXtheme.dll with a Aero visual style, don't really like Vista but Aero is decent looking. For my desktop I don't have any icons, just the XFire Yahoo! Widget but it forgets my username so every time I start my computer I have to re-enter it. Ah well, it's all good. On Linux i've got a fair sweet setup though.
