HL used to be full of bugs including TFC (well it still is but thats another story). I am really curious to see how the HL2 engine would run without Steam. See HL was made to run without Steam and then modified to run with it. That changed a few things and made HL slightly more unstable in certain situations. HL2 was designed to run under Steam but is even more unstable than HL. I think by this time next year we'll see a more polished Source engine. That is if they quit trying to make CS:S please the esport scene. Its just not going to happen until HL2 runs smooth for everyone. The way I see it HL2 didn't sell as good as Valve wanted it to. So they are releasing expansions, HL2DM, The Lost Coast, to get themselves out there how they wanted to be in the first place.

As for the engine, im still amazed at how you can load your own speech into the game, for yoiur own levels, and then the characters will lip synch to your speech. That is kick ass. And yes the story/plot/whatever rocks albeit a bit short, and the game is fairly easy on difficult, but still HL2 pwns.

Oh and btw the physics in HL2 ar far superior(sp?) to any of the new games i have played, especially Painkiller, the only thing that game did right was making GIGANTIC bosses, which i love to see in games.

I think hl2/valve lost out because they released it pretty much the same time as Halo 2. and as everyone knows (to my dislike) most people would rather play a console game than a computer game (i'm not talking most people on this board, but most of the worlds population), it is thought of as being less geeky, and for some reason it has a bigger market (GTA:SA Anyone?)

I didnt really play hl2 to play hl2, as i never finished hl. I played it for the awesome physics and the maps (I mapped for hl, and when i get my new pc plan to map more for hl2).

Like defrag i found myself running around trying to do wicked things with the engine (such as killing the fast head crab zombies with heaters, and trying to pin combine soldiers to the walls with bolts from the crossbow)
