I'm just gonna talk a little about the TFC sniper league I played in. It was definitely the most successful league of its kind. I'm NOT trying to say it's better or that we should do things the same, I just wanted to give you one example of how a successful sniper league was run.
- Time based is what the old league used, but there was one instance where a player killed one player on the other team right after the round started and then the whole team hid in spawn until the map time ran out. If that issue is addressed then time based sounds good, but kill based might be harder to take advantage of. I kind of prefer kill-based but am fine either way. - AR rifle was not allowed at all in our old league. Honostly - the AR in this game is so weak I don't see it being an issue - so I personally don't care. - The old maps had sides that were mirror images of each other, and most of the maps mentioned so far in this thread are remakes of the old tfc maps. So team color shouldn't be an issue (though we did switch in between halfs because some people though the red team was harder to see.. lol). - The league that I played in did allow you to get health (I believe), but several competitions prohibited you from getting a backpack after getting hit. I would prefer the later but am fine either way. - Our old maplist was mainly (and I'm sure I'm forgetting some): 2fortsniper, 119snip, sniprwar (I would be really disappointed if these first three weren't in there.. they were classics), aasnip, sniper_canyon, sniping_arts, sniperx, snipr_cali, and dot (created for my old team! ) - SUMMARY: In tfc, we played 2 halfs of 20 minutes and 1 more (all of these on the same map - different map each week though) if a tiebreaker was needed. Again, I'm fine with whatever we decide (as long as it's not something crazy like non-sniper maps) and just wanted to give everyone a heads up as to how we used to do things. This is not to say that this is THE way to do everything and I would like to have a discussion to get everyone on the same page and in agreement, but I'm excited to play so let's get this started soon!!! |

Remember: with lua, we can do ANYTHING we want. We could set the timelimit to 0 (infinite), and have lua take care of the round system, the switching of teams, the kill-based endgame, removing the AR, etc, etc, etc.
Think outside of the box. What would be the IDEAL set up for a sniper league? We'll figure out if it's possible after that.

My 'ideal' sniper league would do it like this but I am definitely open to different ideas:
- One map a week is played for two halves, with an additional tiebreaker if needed. The first team to reach 40 or 50 combined kills wins a half. - Maps should be sniper-only, mirror images of each other, and have a no-crossing barrier (all of the maps that I mentioned have these characteristics and there are many more that I've seen available). - The 'home' team picks the color they want on the first half and the tiebreaker, if necessary. This isn't a big deal (the map is identical on both sides) but I thought I would lay it out just in case it comes up. - Bags give ammo but not health. - The auto-rifle is illegal. - It would be nice to have a mix of some of the classics (especially 2fortsniper, 119snip, sniprwar, and maybe aasnip/dot ) and some newer maps in the league's maplist. - MOST IMPORTANTLY: Let's get this started soon!! |

I'm just speaking for myself here and I'm sure other people have different opinions but..
* Friendly fire on or off? OFF (but this isn't a big deal either way) * Would removing all bags/resupplies be fine if all players are constantly restocked with ammo every x seconds? YES, but I kinda prefer the bags just because receiving ammo right before you shoot someone might be distracting (it can be in cs1.6 scoutzknivez) - again either way isn't a big deal though * Fall damage on or off? ON (I guess? I've never hurt myself falling in a sniper match before though so again - not a big deal either way) * Primary grenades? OFF * Self damage? See fall damage^^ * Anything else? Not that I can think of... Thanks for trying to put this together I'm looking forward to it |
