I think the models and general animation stuffs need a bit of work.

I just downloaded FF 2.1 yesterday and from what I've played so far it seems that it is a lot more messy than TFC was, that is, in TFC it was much easier to tell wtf was going on. It might be because I'm used to TFC more but since FF isn't so different from TFC I think there is something about FF that makes it indistinct.

you're right garland, im not 100% sure what it is, it might be down to playing tfc for so long, but you could just feel yourself in the game and you are totally aware of your surroundings, what you wanted to do and whats going on, don't really know how to convey what i want to say, it's just something in fortress forever just doesn't feel perfect like tfc did.

I think part of it is just the difference of the engine. Goldsource / TFC's models and environments were very concrete, solid with sharp edges and distinct borders.
Source / FF is a bit more... slick?

It's like that with any game you move over to that the previous game you've solely played for ages, really.
Good stuff Caesium. Love your stuff, I really do. Edit: I have to watch Skillout and Beyond now. Particularly for dido. Love it.

CS 1.6 -> Source feels the same as TFC -> FF for me. I could agree that it's just the source engine that's makes it quite weird to get used to.

Whatever it is, it might very well be that I'm not used to source but whatever it is, it feels like it makes FF not quite as fun as TFC.

I think it really does have a lot to do with how Source renders things... there's also a whole lot to be said for our models and textures. They blend. Player textures are about the same res as wall textures, and pretty much everyone is wearing camo. TFC had higher-res player textures against lower-res wall textures for immediate sharpness, and costumes that sharply contrasted against their environment.

Is it the same for say CS: Source, that the textures are the same res? I find it very easy to make out those models. Well, it's also a much slower game but still...

Yeah but they don't blend in quite as well either.

Blending isn't a major issue for me as I use the old TFC models (low-res models against high-res textures). Before it wasn't as big of a deal for me either, although I've heard plenty of other people complain about it... including those I've shown the game.
I think alternative skins for the player models would be nice. Something with less camo and more TF flare. Over the top, easy to see, skins. maybe even some pink helmets for the engineers.

I agree, some nice clips.
We've popped the youtube stream of the vid on our site to try and get it as much coverage as possible. Coverage to show potential players/old TFC players what FF Gameplay has to offer, ultimately introducing more new faces to the scene! |
