If you made something, and its exactly the same as what thousands of other people have made, how do you know which one is yours?

Different recordings of the same piece are easily recognizable, especially if its the artist themselves listening to it. In my collection of music I have many duplicate pieces, different musicians playing the same piece, but each is distinct and easily differentiated from the others.
