Black, Brown
Went tree planting seen many bears close too. Usually you will scare the bear away with just your presence. If it comes close. Get on the biggest object near you throw out your arms so you look bigger and yell as loud as you can. You want to intimidate it. (wild bears that is, One's that have not came in contact with humans before.) Grizzly's dunno but theres a story somewhere of a guy killing one with a 2 inch blade. Or atleast i think he killed it. He slashed at it's eyes when the bear would try to bite. Juked it out really. |

I think you need a Bear Suit. That's the only way to survive.

As far as not dying from a bear, all I've ever learned is that running makes it chase you, and that's it's faster than you. Apparantly if you make loud noises and act like a predator it makes it not think your food. ...instead I'm sure it thinks you're trying to start a fight so it kills you anyway... but it doesn't eat you.* Anyone see the The edge (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119051/) Anthony hokins and alec baldwin kills bearswith nothing more than giant sticks. They sharpen one edge and wait for the bear to charge. Then put the stick forward and fall backwards letting the bear impale itself on the spear and then further thrust the spear into itself as its own weight forces downward. ...it worked in the movie, so there are no flaws. also "We're going to kill the bear, say it! I'm gonna kill the motha fucka" (That's awesome because Anthony Hopkins says it. ) |

actually... I have read enough real life stories to tell you for certain that laying down and playing dead will not work. you simply will be offering yourself up as a free meal.
instead you should be making yourself large in stature, yell firmly, and back away slowly. but under no circumstances, do you run.

When I was younger, I used to bring fire crackers with me, loud ones. Wonder if they'll actually work.

Makes sense to me. But if it's a bear that knows it can take a bullet to the head and be nothing more than increasingly pissed off, maybe it wouldn't be afraid... I'm gonna vote for a desert eagle. That should kill the bear. ...and the other bears behind it. ...and the deer behind them. ...but that would be it. |

Anyway, if the bear really is pissed then I don't think I can do much about it, even with a machete. |

Black bears, grizzly bears, and polar bears act differently.
If a grizzly bear, back away slowly and don't try to intimidate it (run away or shout at it), or assume the fetal position and lay very still unless it actually starts to eat you (then fight for your life mang). Grizzlies are defense, so if you do not pose a threat and it is not starving to death, it will generally leave you alone. If a black bear, stand tall, look aggressive, and try to intimidate it (yell, swing your machete)--if you play dead you will just be eaten. If you try to climb a tree, it will eat you, because it can climb trees better than you can. It is an aggressive, not defensive, bear so if it does try to attack you, it will not stop. If a polar bear, hope you have a rifle somewhere nearby.

Polar Bears scare me... as do lions. They are both much bigger than they are on TV... I know that sounds really stupid, but I didn't always realise how big those mfers really were. |

Noooope. Good thing most people have instincts at that, and can keep a cool head.
I doubt the firecracker thing would work on grizzlies, too. I mean, they're like fighters, stand with them and they'll want to fight with you. Smaller variety.. maybe. I'm not sure which would really work better, the kind that goes "screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech" for about 30 seconds or one that goes a huge "KA-BOOM" in less than a second. Where I got the idea was more or less from watching a documentary on polar bears a looooooooong time ago when I was a kid, where scientists in the arctic would fly around in helicopters shooting (blanks? I don't remember) at the bears to scare them away from their research base/things. Same with people on the ground. I think they even had tripwires or something like that. I gotta figure out a way to carry those safely though.. I used to stuff one in the bottom of my pack. Which is dumb, they're impact sensitive. Plus it's hot in there. |

A "Doe" is a female whitetail deer - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-tailed_deer Does is plural, meaning a group. This is a group of "Does." I took these pictures last hunting season. Does defend their selves more every predator by running away. Whitetail deer does have very good hearing and a very good sense of smell. If a pissed off bear were to get close to a doe, the doe would just out run the bear. The doe being faster and more agile then the bear would have no problems escaping. As monty Python would say - "run away, run away. Any more trick questions? |
