Sorry for the poor quality. But as you can see both options are nearly identical.

You will notice a slight loss of speed in the surf route. This could be minimized by a smoother turn on my part, or if I had made the ramp out of smaller segments rotated at different intervals, that would have also provided for a smoother experience.

Also note that after the turn on the surf, I actually gain some of that speed back. And even if I hadn't and continued on at that 999 speed, if the ramp were any longer, it would be without a doubt the faster option.

This was recorded on the GTL server with their stock settings. Default airaccel, host_timescale was not involved. With wubbaduckey as my witness/jpad builder.
