yeah I realise that, but the textures in the ff version of destroy are absoloutly crap. It doesnt look anything like a koochy map and that was the best thing about destroy. It had the amazing look koochy could make in every map (see conc speed series/quadrocket/strafes) It doesnt feel like destroy, that's all, which is a shame @squeek no I'm not annoyed koochy didnt make it, I know he cant as he's way too busy with schooling. However a bit of contact with the man and the team behind the original would have helped. Guess can't do anything about it. and yes, compared to destroy_l, ff_destroy looks atrocious |

I like caes's style of mapping, but of course there's people who don't.
Normally I'd say "Well, if you don't like it, you're welcome to make your own". As you've said jerms, you're a member of the original clan who made it so at least you have some sort of backing to your opinion rather than another mapper criticizing caes's style or just some forumgoer who doesn't like it. We usually take our due diligence in trying to hunt the original mapmakers down. That involves looking for an e-mail address, clan IRC channel, website, etc. If you haven't heard anything, than caes probably couldn't track any of the members down. So basically, yeah... if you're dissatisfied, it's caes's baby now. Constructive suggestions regarding soundscapes and props is helpful - denegrating the visual style of the map is not helpful. As I said at the beginning of the thread, you're welcome to make your own. Maybe it will become more popular than the official ff_destroy.

Tbh, I'm blown away this map was even remade.
Looking back, I see many gameplay flaws as Caesium suggested (ooomg biggest fan of your AVI's, ever) and now that I see this map being remade/played in FF; I am honoured. Honestly, although I am an elitest at heart and seeing my own work being recreated with out my own touch is slightly hard to accept, it still makes me feel very proud. Thank you to whoever remade my map (I haven't actually played FF yet :<) and I hope maybe one day... I will load up Hammer again and attempt at butchering a big meaty-beef-salad-dessert map together... one day! Jerm, I love you, come over for a BBQ and bring your hot flatmates. <3 |

I think the FF version of this map is certainly one of the better CTF maps available to play on, but I am a little surprised at the lack of grenade pouches for the defenders.
I know I am about to be told that this is a clan/pickup map and shouldn't be played by publics / public CTF is broken blahblah.. However, it seems quite obvious that regardless of the people playing this map, the offence has a tremendous advantage over the defence. The defenders have a finite supply of grenades and as far as I am aware there is only one grenade pouch (at security). The offence however are always respawning with a fresh set of grenades and will eventually wittle down the defenders purely through the massive advantage in grenades. The problem is magnified greatly on public servers which almost serves to ruin the map for public play. I can't see much of a reason why adding a single gren to the pouches within the flag room area, or adding a grenade pouch in the upper restock room would negatively effect the map for clan/pickup play. This change would really make a difference to public play though as the lack of grenades severely hampers any attempt to defend the flag. I'd also like to suggest some kind of suggestive arrow or information within the spawn of both bases illustrating that the left route leads directly out into the yard. Far too many players fail to realise the advantage of such an exit and often drop down into the normal spawn. This would again make no difference to clan/pickup play but could serve to make this map as popular as aardvark is on public servers. Two simple, easy and highly beneficial changes I think. |
