Why is it peoples only source of news? Is there some remote part of europe that cannot recieve news, only The Daily Star?

I honestly can't believe you don't know what I mean, unless reading the star too much has adled you mind, anyway:
Of course they have access to other sources of news, you honestly think that most tabloid readers take advantage of them?? You think that they read some hate filled rubbish about asylum seekers or some such, then go off and find out the truth afterwards? No, cause they're too busy watching Ant and Dec's saturday night takeway and hollyoaks... |

Basically all your doing yourself is the very thing tabloids do, in your last few posts you have derived that
> Tabloids make you stupid > They should all be wiped out > They are mostly made up of lies > Tabloids go hand in hand with people who watch Saturday night live... > You seem to have done a survey and derived that people who read tabloids don’t read real news from any other source. > Somehow everyone who doesn’t do as you say is below you. > Art / News are automatically a richer source of pleasure than that of tabloids / working class entertainment... You should work for a fucking tabloid. You have done exactly what is done by them, just switch tabloid with Islam... People who are Islamic are stupid, they are all terrorists, they should all be wiped out, and people who are Islamic drink dirty water and live in mud huts. Hypocrite. |

*applauds*
Was having a similar discussion but about soap operas the other day. I think the conclusion was that even if you view "lowbrow" entertainment as completely devoid of any value that still doesn't mean they shouldn't exist and can't really reflect upon the people who view upon them. |

Yeah I'm an upper class, intellectual snob who sits in my ivory tower and pronounces judgement on the working classes Or I come from a working class background and have spent my whole life around people who read this crap. I have to listen to their opinions that are based on this garbage. Occasionally I can be bothered to go 'well actually...' but generally it's not worth it. Then they talk about Xfactor for half an hour. I'm not saying this applies to everyone, but it certainly holds true for most people I've met. Personally I think the stuff that people read should be based on some kind of truth and journalistic integrity. Rather than just the desire to shift some papers using lies and sensationalism. |

This is a ridiculous argument. You live your on life. People like what they like.
Personally I can't stand football, so I don't watch it. You don't have to read these magazines. Why bitch about it? It's like moaning at someone because you happen to dislike what they are eating. |

Tabloid newspapers tell people what to think and who to vote for. It's a little different.
Obviously I don't think people read some shitty rag and then go 'right I'm gonna go vote for who they told me too...' but their influence is undeniable. think how many peoples lives they made miserable over the years so that you can have a chuckle for 5 minutes at lunch while you eat your sandwiches. |

Dude. There will always be influence and there will always be media you dislike but at the end of the day the choice is down to individual.

I agree, I'm not starting a one man crusade against the tabloid media, but this is a thread asking people what they think of it and personally I would much rather it didn't exist.

Its a case of getting the working class to read news, if packing it with saftness and half truth is the way id rather it be that than nothing.

On that note, I found out that Jesus abducted my unborn grandchild to sing with him in the intergalactic Three Tenors troop.
I expect to get royalties |

I think that the people that enthuse over Tabloids will find some replacement for them if they were done away with tomorrow. As net access grows people are finding electronic replacements for the newsstand garbage of today. Personally I don't care about them. Just one more thing on my ignore list...

I think that something described as 'art' would generally be richer entertainment than something that isn't. Not necessarily more entertaining though, nor more newsworthy. This really doesn't necessarily say anything about tabloids, although I will say that I still think peopel who obsess over the personal lives of celebrities are wierd.

It really isnt needed though, they can just put a sensible headline and article up, then people can decide for themselves whether they agree with the bias of the article. on the subject of bias, BBC news is in fact as unbiassed as anyone's going to get, as they just present facts rather than opinions. it isnt perfect, but unbiassed news is hard to write, at least i cant anyway :P |
