No, that's not true.

Greenlight has very little support for mods (so much so that our Valve contact when we got Greenlit couldn't give us any information on how a mod could even be distributed by Steam). It turns out, to release on Steam, we have to redistribute the entire Source SDK Base with the mod (see No More Room in Hell for an example of this). With the 2013 SDK, this is possible, because it's possible to run hl2.exe with the right parameters in order to launch a mod from an arbitrary directory. With the 2006 SDK, no one has figured out how to do it; it seems like the hl2.exe of Source SDK Base 2006 does not have the necessary support.

So, no, we can't seem to release the current build on Greenlight. That is, not unless someone can figure out how to redistribute the 2006 SDK in such a way that allows us to launch from hl2.exe directly.

I should really write some sort of status update, but the short of it is:
  • A port to a newer engine is seemingly required to put FF on Steam at all
  • Porting to the 2013 engine is a huge effort and it's unknown whether or not we'd immediately be behind the curve during/after porting if Source 2 gets released (and then that potentially being an equally difficult port)
  • Maintaining motivation is difficult
  • I'm a dumbo

Didn't Neotokyo get released on Steam? I thought they were one of the few mods still on Source SDK 2006. Maybe we could ask a few of their devs what they did to get it working.

At a glance the Neotokyo binaries match the sdk2006 binaries but not the 2007 binaries, so they must have figured something out.
