Was Q3F available for retail? I never played it so I have no idea, but its also a mod on a competing gaming engine, so it would be in Valve's interest to make sure no one confused Quake Fortress mods with HL Fortress mods; even though TF was originally for Quake, people have posted that Valve purchased the rights to TF.
And it could be that they are already writing out checks for the guys here once its done but haven't said anything previously. I wouldn't blame them if they got a big time developing job for their work here, shit, they can't support themselves by making free stuff for the rest of their lives. Even so, unless someone has a secret link to the guys who run Valve, then anything we say is pretty much speculation, unless, of course, you happen to be a lawyer who is knowledgeable about gaming legalities. |

Oh yeah that's interesting, I forgot about the fact that all other TF mods seem to have to use some different class names. I wonder why they've not contacted us about it yet

What if Valve were waiting for the release of FF and see what it's like? If it's a quality product (and we've no reason not to believe it won't be and indeed based on the people developing it that it WILL be of extreme high quality)... well, it wouldn't be the first time that a big fish would offer to procure the small fish to fill a void in their product line. And with a big enough incentive for the FF team... just like that.... voila, a new and better TFC:S without the issues of development and gameplay design changes. Not that they would charge for it... but to make it available via steam for free d/l. If I were Valve and not actively pursuing TFC development, I'd strongly consider this. Of course, if I were Valve, I'd not be moderating a gaming forum, either, eh? *NOTE* This is NOT by any means a criticism or caveat for the FF development team. If anything, it's a compliment to your abilities. |

I could go to Valve HQ and start running around aking TF related questions untill security has its way with me and throws my corpse out of a 10th story window.
I've actually been to Valve's building though. My dad works like 5 blocks away in a neigboring skyscraper. Hah. The place looked like it was under construction. Anyway, It'd be totally awesome to see FF available for everyone (for free and not messed around with by valve) via steam. The community would get huge in a hurry. |

There doesn't seem to be a chance that this article or interview would ever make it to the states, would it?

In regards to PC Gamer not being aware of Fortress Forever, if this was all it took for them to possibly publish some fortress forever content in their magazine, why have the devs been so lax with mod publicity in print media / gaming magazines? I appreciate there was something planned with PC Zone which fell through but there are many many other similar publications that are likely unaware of the existence of this mod.
While I also understand that the ff team would like any ff feature published to be a suitably in-depth article....even a quick mention in 3-4 magazines is much better than nothing. Unless of course the team were planning a mass magazine publicity event once ff neared completion. |

not needed. there's no progress in the media section anymore so what do you expect from PC Gamer? Doub't it's their job to checkout every website and write some article about the possibility of a good mod. I wouldn't write about this mod either as long as their isn't something to talk/write about.

Yeah they shouldn't apply to a magazine untill they have a release date + some neat ass ingame pwnage video or something...
What's the point to write about it now? Peeps will be hyped for a month and forget it? |

It doesnt need a fucking FEATURE length presentation. Even them just going "FF looks cool check it out www.fortress-forever.com" that would be better than nothing. People forget how massive TFC was, and how important the next step in TF is.

We intend on setting a date, pushing for lots of coverage before we know when the project will be publicly available is silly. Rest assured we will get the word out when the time is right.

Let me know if the PC Gamer guys need further convincing, I work for Future Publishing and can disable their PC access if need be
In all honest though, they are really nice guys and I'm sure they would write a decent review for you. |

I doubt TFC would ever have made it on source as CS did.
Lets face it, even with TF2 they were never planning on making it pure CTF. This mod still could bring Valve profit since people like me bought HL2 only for the free mods like FF, which is a good enough reason for them to have FF continue as it is. |

I think Omni is right, which explains why valve hasn't told you to switch class names or to stop developing or something.
It doesn't explain their fortress-related silence though. God damn valve is wierd. |
