The remark about UNIX/Linux is but a precision, as I am under the impression that Os X owes more to UNIX than any other *nixes. If you have to make an encompassing statement about the Os X core, let's make the one that sticks the most to reality (then again, it's how I view this). At any matter, the gross overstatement about stability of pre-X systems is what made me jump. To be fair the amount of misconceptions and false assumptions about Macs in this thread is too great for me to not inadvertently start a flamewar because of speaking without being a bit too direct, if you see what I mean. (see ? it's already showing its ugly horns).
Oh and yeah sorry about my post, it was terribly insulting. Hope I didn't break your heart . No bad feelings. |

You should perhaps read more on this subject then. If you want to argue precision then neither of our initial statements is accurate. It is NOT a UNIX Kernel. It is not a Linux kernel. It is a blend. The kernel itself is a mishmash of elements of GNU, BSD and *nix. My advice to you? Watch the video, laugh, have a coke and a smile. |

The original, including response e-mails and Hunter's replies. Funny stuff. From: Chris Subject: You Suck The Commonwealth of Chris declares you to be its enemy. I hope you burn in hell. From: Hunter Cressall Subject: The enemy Dear Prime Minister Chris, I use nukes like most people use facial tissue but don't let me in any way influence your foreign policy decisions. By the way, Hell is nice this time of year. Wish you were here, Hunter

He's not even really a Mac basher. Macs are all he uses. He's just refuting the (in his words) "heavy-handed" approach of the old Mac switchover commercials.

I don't mind macs standalone. What's really a pain in the ass is trying to get 22 of them to play nice with eachother and an Xserve. While I was a sys admin at the college i was going to we had that setup. So many quirky problems like files dissapearing from home directories or printing issues coming out of nowhere. The newer OSX versions helped some of the problems but it was still the most unstable lab we had to deal with.
I guess if we had a "mac expert" there it might have ran a little smoother. The other problem was the lab was used for graphic design and half the people were computer illiterate. In the end if you like macs use a mac. If you like PCs use a PC. I prefer PCs because I'm a gamer and I like to customize and build my own machines. |

So I actually got around to watching the video. My god, everything he says has happened to me.
Using Avid Xpress Pro or Final Cut Pro on the Uni Mac's is torture. |

The fact that they've still resisted bundling a decent mouse with Macs is pretty silly. I mean, Ipods have more than one button, but people don't whine about how "hard" they are to use.

True, you can hook up a 2 button usb mouse. The mice that come with the macs just suck though. Not sure what comes with em now but we had the "entire mouse is a button" mouse. Was a pain in the ass cause if the cord was in a certain position by the mouse you would go to click but nothing would happen cause the mouse was blocked from moving down, which was what did the click.
