I got the same error as Kube after doing cache verification... grrr Oh well, it's bed time anyway! GJ on getting FF Greenlit BTW!

Private Compyle Fix

Not sure where to post this or to make new thread but.. After all the updating i can now compile all maps in Hammer again (not yet using vbct) using these settings and after reinstalling SDK, base2006, base2007 (may not have to reinstall)

Game data files> same as before the .fgd in SteamApps\sourcemods\FortressForever

Game executable directory & Game directory> same folder as above

HammerVMFdirectory> SteamApps\sourcemods\FortressForever\maps

Build Programs TAB> Game executable> SteamApps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2.exe
vbsp vvis vrad executables> SteamApps\common\SourceSDK\bin\ep1\bin


LAST BUT NOT LEAST? > Copy the steam.dll in SteamApps\common\SourceSDK to the same folder as the vbsp vvis and vrad executables.. SteamApps\common\SourceSDK\bin\ep1\bin (may not have to copy the steam.dll <--another Headzy amendment!)

When you change the directories in Hammer it will say $SteamUserDir\SourceSDK etc instead of common\
Also if you have nothing in common files, SourceSDK should be in user dir (amendment credit to Headzy!)


now i can finish my freakin map..

Wow, nice job. This worked for me. One correction, though: I think you meant copy the steam.dll from SteamApps\common\Source SDK Base, not SteamApps\common\SourceSDK.

TL;DR version for people that had a working Hammer before the Source SDK Base 2006 Steampipe conversion: Keep everything the same and copy steam.dll from steamapps\common\Source SDK Base to steamapps\<username>\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin

Nice one Mr Squeek, ye looks like different setups will require variations in the directories. Headzy didn't need to copy the steam.dll .. but i was getting Can't load filesystem_steam.dll error in Hammer. I'm not sure exactly what difference reinstalling sdk and the two base has made to the folders setup, or the steam.dll :/ I trust u can make more sense of it than me and iron out details when we see correlation in afew more setups

To clarify the specific directories for steam.dll i used .. from SteamApps\common\SourceSDK ..to SteamApps\common\SourceSDK\bin\ep1\bin was what i meant, that is actually how my folders are set up (maybe from TF2 steampipe update/conversion, not sure) i didn't realize my setup would be unique or as unique :/ would be nice to know everyones directory setup to know exactly what is working where, seeing as Headz didn't need to copy the steam.dll but in other cases that seems to be the only requisite change.. it's all confusing me :s also for me Hammer and vbct were working until about an hour before the update rolled out, then sdk just wouldn't load.

(Weird, I thought I already had an account here)

Valve is moving everything from their old Content Delivery Network to the newer SteamPipe CDN. They seem to be aiming to shut down the old network by the end of the year.

Edit (2013/11/13): Valve has shut down their old CDN and now everything is on SteamPipe.

SteamPipe supports HTTP downloads rather than using whatever proprietary protocol Valve was using before.

Unfortunately, Valve must have had issues with large files on it, because they claim GCF files aren't supported any more. Valve's own Source games have all switched over to VPK files instead, which are limited to around 100MB-200MB each.

In Steam, go to Library, select Tools from the dropdown, find Source SDK Base 2006, right click it and go to Properties. In the properties window, go to the Local Files tab and click "Verify Integrity of Tool Cache"

That should update you to the new Steampipe file system and then you should be able to connect to servers.
Not sure if that'll make you redownload, but if it's not prompting you, then, yeah, you need to force it.
