If a 'good' person did an evil thing, then surely that would make them evil? Not good..

yea, that doesn't make sense. I know what he's saying, but there's also a little thing called morals.

Did anyone actually read the article?

It's about how the pope says only Catholocism is the "whole" church, whereas the many other Christian denominations are nothing more than shadows of the true one.

Which would be, btw, nondenominational Christianity probably, not Catholocism. d:

It is better to be kindred to ones god, than to beg on your knees and hands every night and sunday.

Thorsday is best day.

Something tells me that believing in a god to avoid going to hell is just as bad as not believing in a god.

I mean, if there is a god... do you really think you can get away with that?
"Uh, yeah, you only thought I existed so I wouldn't send you to hell."
"Yeah, how'd that work out for me?"
"You don't want to know."

Why's that then? In any case, if you take that viewpoint then it's not belief. It's a kind of agnostic gambling.

yep it is. I was just giving a different point of view. I knew what I was saying and why it would be a crappy reason to believe.

edit: doesnt make it false though

for that matter, how does one choose to believe in something?
wouldnt an omnipotent being be capable of detecting feigned belief?

I'm not saying that's why you should believe. I'm not even saying you should believe. I'm just saying that its better odds. I know that its a horrible way to think of it. I said that, but what I didn't say is that's the reason you should believe.

actually. forget I said anything. I didn't think that kind of remark would get this much feedback. I don't want to do this.

The Roman Catholic Church can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. It's played an important part in history but it isn't needed anymore and is so blatently false. They had a religion there once that they produced an organisation to administer. They got so caught up in organisation and control that that appears to have usurped their religion. The catholicism of today carries little resemblance to the teachings of Christ.

I think if I gave a damn what the Pope said I'd be going to church occasionally.

i believe in god - i saw her walking around today wearing a beautiful short sundress...gently flowing in the wind, semi translucent, showing the tight curvature of her ass, revealing those tight muscular calves, as she walked with a purposeful cadence.

yup, god is hot.

Well yes it does because it's an impossiblity. If you believe because you might be right and you might not be right but at least you won't burn forever then you don't believe. This is where utilitarianism falls down (on it's face in the ash and brimstone while being jabbed in the arse by pitchfork wielding demons.)

^ truths. if you 100% believe then you KNOW that you will be saved and its just kinda an afterthought. i have no problem with people like that as long as they aren't super wacked out and push their beliefs on me.
