It would need a longer neck for it to be to scale for me. d:

I really can't understand how people can turn to instruments made in Japan, Korea, China, Mexico etc when looking for a guitar. Unless, perhaps you're a beginner. You wouldn't use swiss cheese on nachos and you shouldn't use some Korean/Japanese guitar for rock.
Forget all the foreign bulls*** and get a real instrument, like a Gibson Custom Shop Slash Les Paul Signature Guitar. You'll have it and enjoy it from the first time you pick it up and for the rest of your life. List is a little over $6k but, you can easily pick them up in the $4s. |

I hope you're not being serious? On the off chance that you're not taking the piss and actually believe what you just wrote, I reply thus: I can admit that Korean/Chinese/Mexican guitars aren't quite up to par with a US made Jacskon or Gibson perhaps, although honestly the top end LTD's are remarkably close, and for a fraction of the price. As for Japanese guitars, are you kidding me? The Japanese can make guitars that put some of the current offerings of Gibson to shame. If you honestly think that the US has some magical abilities the rest of the world hasn't come across yet you're seriously deluded. And don't even get me started on a Slash custom. Save the extra dollars and get an ordinary Custom Les Paul. That way you won't waste $2000 on getting Slash's endorsement, because that's all your paying for, a name. Oh and to the original threadstarted, yes, the S520 is a very fine instrument. |

I love the SG, it's a very versatile guitar, can do a lot with it. Feels nice, easy to play. One day I'll buy an SG-3. Sticking with the Les Paul at the moment though because I'm pretty much skint. I play blues and blues-rock though, so not sure whether it's good for metal.

you mentioned EMGs earlier.. i had an 81/85 set a while back, but i ditched them for a DiMarzio FRED/Paf Pro pair. while the EMGs were great for metal, the dimarzios are so much more versatile, and covered all the bases quite well for all rounder pickups. they were also split, so i could use them as single coil if i wired them correctly, not to mention wierd and wonderful wiring/phase setups.
