Hunter that's a badass case.
I just rebuilt my comp and stuck in a Thermaltake Kandalf: Xoxide has some really decent cases. But really if your concern is overheating you want to make sure you have plenty of room for fans. Or look at liquid cooling. A basic solution a friend of mine when for was just to take the side of his case off and leave everything open. |

Of the specialty builds I do each year I use mostly Antec chassis's. Most of the time I order a barebones and add the PSU that I want for the system. Antec has always done right by me and there is some thought that seems to go into the layout of the cases for doing the assembly.

Hmm, I was reading user reviews on the Aspire cases and they seem to have frequent problems fitting motherboards. Seeing as usually just use cheap cases, is that a common issue with specialty cases? I thought all motherboards had the same general design for installation into a case.

i understand a motherboard / powersuply / case wont make my computer run any smoother or faster
it runs fine as it is, 1 gig of ram 2.8 processor ati radeon 9800 pro 256mb video card what i was saying was, if my motherboard probably wont fit in any cases, would getting a new motherboard be a smart idea w/ the case? or should i figure out what i need for my motherboard to fit, and get a case like that? |

Given that the point of starting this thread was to address heat then a new chassis is probably the least expensive solution with the least amount of noise. If you have free 5.25 external drive bays you can find fan units that will fit in there but they are using very small fans and probably won't develop the air flow you're after.
So, yeah....get the measurements and specs on your motherboard and start researching the websites of the chassis's you're interested in. |

Every time I decide whether to get a kick-ass case, I realize I can spend the money to make my computer faster instead. So I still have my old beige tower

Well if your beige tower has good cooling then fair enough. But I can't imagine it has.

Ok I've spent the better part of an hour looking for a case and though I can't exactly pinpoint what I want, I absolutely know what I DON'T want...
...and hopefully no one who posted their pics gets offended by my remarks. What in the hell is up with these cases? Glass windows, curvy designs, flashing lights, I feel like I've been drugged and taken to a rave. Does anyone recommend a case that is simple yet extremely functional? Something with plenty of room but not friggin huge (I'm using a shuttle right now so size is halfway important to me)? Different strokes for different folks but if I bought a computer case that looked like a UFO was landing, my friends would make fun of me NONSTOP. Hell, I'm kinda embarrassed just looking at them. That kind of design doesn't impress anyone I know. Closest thing to "normal/perfect" I could really find was the Antec Sonata II. I've read countless reviews and websites claiming the front door is plastic and easy to break. Not to mention they keep saying how annoying that blue light is on the front. I guess I'm not the only person to get annoyed by that. I basically want something more than "beige" (haha jiggles) but nothing that looks like my computer might transform into a robot and allow me to climb inside. Any suggestions? |

Do you want Mini/mid/full tower? How many front panel drive bays do you want/need? Will your needs change in the the next 3 years?
I build primarily with the performance, solution and var series chassis from Antec. Aside from the ARIA none of the chassis cater to the Rave whores. If you're a KISS principle guy, take a look at those. Did you ever get your motherboard dimensions and form factor? |

I've had my shuttle for almost a year and after adding my second stick of ram, I started having random crashes. Checked everything out, ran tests... all passed. I then noticed my ram is listed at 2.6v and it was currently set at 2.5. No big deal I thought, I'll just go in and change it. Come to find out (on the sudhian forums) with my particular version of this model (SN45Gv2), changing the dimm voltage will fry your motherboard and was disabled to protect people from this. I emailed Shuttle technical support but they never answered. I emailed them twice actually. Once a couple months ago, once last week. Would have been nice to know beforehand. Bastards. ANYWAYS, so I was looking at cases because I was thinking of putting a newer/better system together. My needs won't really change in the next 3 years besides maybe upgrading the mobo to support SLI. Unless something happens in the next 3 years, this is what I was thinking of buying: ASUS A8N5X Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice XFX Geforce 6800GS 256MB Creative SB Audigy2 ZS CORSAIR ValueSelect PC3200 1GB (if needed for new mobo) I currently own: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB Western Digital HDD 80GB 7200rpm Kingston HyperX PC2700 1GB (2x512) Onboard Sound Some DVD Burner Some Floppy Drive So I imagine a mid-tower would be fine, two external 5.25 bays(one for dvdrw, other for another dvd/cd or maybe a sensor of some kind), 1 external 3.5 bay (floppy), and 3 internal 3.5 bays (two for HDs and an extra). Ideally, I'd like to have something like two 120mm fans to help circulation and help with fan noise. Suggestions? |

can you get Arctic cases where you are? the Silentiums?
They're classy looking, silent and feature Seasonic PSU's which are about the best in the buisiness. |

here you go:
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?hl...line&scoring=p Don't worry about the fact the PSU's are only 350W, a 350W seasonic is still better than a 500W from lesser brands. |

Take a look at this It will accommodate your interest in 2 120mm's. I have done quite a number of systems using this and this and the results were very good. As far as the front doors go I suppose if someone is rough on their equipment it would be issue. I've had an Antec Plus1080AMG for over 3 years with daily use...no issues. But to each his own. |

Salty, those cases aren't bad at all. I think I'm a little too picky with the looks, here's a case I absolutely love, too bad it comes with that crappy 350W PS. Guess I could just always buy a 450 or something...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811154045 Its nice, sleek, and most of all simple. Too bad I don't necessarily like the features but still, I think its gorgeous. |

but by some of your cooments, you seem not to understand why some people would want a case that has "Glass windows, curvy designs, flashing lights, I feel like I've been drugged and taken to a rave. " if im gonna have a kick ass engine under the hood, i want the body to be sexy....if i have a 350 supercharges block with non cheesy glass packs (ok car anology), then i dont want the body to look like a ford escort. i want it to look like a corvette. i want it sexy. im not challenging what you want, that is your right. you just came down a bit condecending on those who like to have a sexy rig, inside and out. |
