I don't think FPS's existed when they designed keyboards for the first time.

I use WASD, but on my awesome Nostromo n52 speedpad. I can't play games without it.

I'm left handed so WASD is not an option (stretches the wrist and shoudler too much for long sessions), the arrow keys are not good either because my wrist is not supported. So I use a combination of the NUM keys for movement, jumping, crouching, etc. the arrow keys are used for voice com (right arrow), down arrow for team typing, left key for general. On my keyboard the page up and page down keys are right next to the NUM keys (where my left hand index finger would be for straffing) so I use those for my list of commands/responses.

To be honest, I could never understand it. I write left handed, but do nearly everything else on the right. |

Nah I'm left-handed all the way, trust me it's a bitch re-assigning 15-25 keys every time you get a new game or mod, but it works better than anything else I'v ever tried.

WASD
My mate Kiba (a.k.a. Visor), has one of them five button mice. He has special bound to mouse4 and he has, for some godforsaken reason, kill bound to mouse 5. So when I am playin' on his comp and I get overexcited or something sometimes I squeeze the mouse and I kill myself. x_X I play at 15 sensitivity and I do not think I could ever go back to anything less. I used to play at 7 and I am still getting used to 15. I might actually go up even more once I get used to 15. I used to do arrow keys... hurt my damn wrist, though. How come no one has mentioned the whole "left wrist gettin' hurt" thing with the arrow keys? WASD works because you do not have to move your keyboard or anything and you do not have to like contort your body. Iunno, maybe you people can like dislocate elbows (or fingers, like some of you weirdos here o_O' ), but it kills me. I use F1 for special, F2 for "Roger that". F3 says "Our Flag Room is secure" (for when I am on D), and F4 says "Flag in danger, bitches!" three times in like 1 second. F5-F12 and backspace are specials depending on the class. For instance, for Engi: Code:
//"My teleporter from our Sniper Respawn to..." bind f5 "say_team H:%h A:%a | My teleporter from our Sniper Respawn to..." //"My teleporter from outside our Main Respawn to..." bind f6 "say_team H:%h A:%a | My teleporter from outside our Main Respawn to..." //"...our Basement Resupply." bind f7 "say_team H:%h A:%a | ...our Basement Resupply." //"...enemy Waterway." bind f8 "say_team H:%h A:%a | ...enemy Waterway." //"...bottom of enemy Water Spiral." bind f9 "say_team H:%h A:%a | ...bottom of enemy Water Spiral." //"...enemy Main Entrance." bind f10 "say_team H:%h A:%a | ...enemy Main Entrance." //"...top of enemy Elevator." bind f11 "say_team H:%h A:%a | ...top of enemy Elevator." //"...enemy Flag Room! Get your asses over here fast and bring bags!" bind f12 "say_team H:%h A:%a | ...enemy Flag Room! Get your asses over here fast and bring bags!" D players use F5 + F7 a lot lol. Spy, I use the keys for disguises: Code:
//Enemy Disguises bind f5 "disguise_enemy 1 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy Scout." bind f6 "disguise_enemy 2 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy Sniper." bind f7 "disguise_enemy 3 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy Soldier." bind f8 "disguise_enemy 4 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy Demoman." bind f9 "disguise_enemy 5 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy Medic." bind f10 "disguise_enemy 6 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy HW Guy." bind f11 "disguise_enemy 7 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy Pyro." bind f12 "disguise_enemy 8 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy Spy." bind backspace "disguise_enemy 9 ; say_team H:%h A:%a | I'm disguised as enemy Engineer." My favorite binds out of everything, though, are these: ^.^ Code:
//Kirby Spots Snipers! bind kp_home "say_team H:%h A:%a | <('-'^) Sniper Top Left <('-'^)" bind kp_uparrow "say_team H:%h A:%a | (^'-'^) Sniper Top Center (^'-'^)" bind kp_pgup "say_team H:%h A:%a | (^'-')> Sniper Top Right (^'-')>" bind kp_leftarrow "say_team H:%h A:%a | <('-'V) Sniper Bottom Left <('-'V)" bind kp_5 "say_team H:%h A:%a | (V'-'V) Sniper In Yard (V'-'V)" bind kp_rightarrow "say_team H:%h A:%a | (V'-')> Sniper Bottom Right (V'-')>" |
