I would be playing, but I'm studying some of the levels and throwing together a test level in the editor. When I first ran FF I seen a server with 8 people in it. It was password protected. Not cool.

The medic is 20% slower (320 versus 400 base move speeds). That's huge, it's effectively around 120 bhop faster, plus you spawn with three concs instead of two. The scout already has plenty of leverage over the medic in some situations.
As it should be. Jump pads, however, just make the game run too fast. Just aced the entire enemy team on destroy, on defense? Good job, you have 10 seconds until they're all back in your flag room. If there weren't jump pads, it would be closer to 15-20, unless they used concs to cross the yard. A massive difference. Also people fail to realized how much the extra speed on a scout really helps. Gotta jump from one ledge to another, ala the spawn -> batts jump on openfire? Easy as a scout, tough as a medic. Want to do super trimps without needing a conc? Impossible as a medic. The balance between scout and medic would be fine without JPs. It'd also help so much to slow down gameplay.

In my opinion:
CTF works perfectly in pickup games... aside from constant front door spam in certain maps. now only if we could get peopel to follow the objective in PUBS.. (force people to play offense or defense) IVD & AVD is pretty close in my opinion but I think that Jumppads should be completely removed from these gamemodes, else destroyable it's not the sentry gun that is the problem... it's the balancing of the teams that kills it primarily and then jumppads. people prefer tfc over FF - it amazes me.... really - even in FF's current form! i blame their computers

instead of complaining like everyone else...
Here are some possible solutions to the jumpad issue (not that I am saying there is a problem, but if there is...) 1. Remove Jumpad 2. Make Jumpad Destroyable 3. Make Jumpad only useable by scouts (or scouts and Medics) 4. Put a timer on jumpad (ie. it has to charge for x seconds before it can be reused to jump) 5. Make Jump pad consume a portion of Armour of heavier classes in order to power itself (portion is relative to classes weight, so scout gives 0% armour, medic gives 5-10%, Heavy gives %30 and so on) 6. Make jumppad launch class only as far as they weigh, eg heavy only gets launched half as far as a scout 7. Jumpad is only buildable by engineer, not scout Im sure there are more solutions, and i think some of the above could be used in conjunction with one another, but these should get the ball rolling... |
