Its quite possible this is due to the nice bug they introduced in the compiling tools

As of this moment the current valve compiling tools will not make a Map that runs on linux - it doesnt work ! (it crashes the server)

If you use these tools, the map will run fine under linux - however it has to be compiled under hammer, and cannot be used in a script (which sucks )

I can't remember if it is or not! Might just be a tweaked du/dv map and a custom model instead of a shader rewrite. Mr. Monkey will let you know soon, no doubt.

The reason for the boxyness of the RPG 3rd person model is that, currently, all our third person weapon models are made with a fixed mid-range LOD polycount. This is mostly because currently we don't have time to do a full slew of LOD states and need performance rather than appearance in this area.

As the mod gets closer to completion and other, more important models are in-place and functioning correctly we will review LOD setups across the board and adjust them appropriately.

(English translation: Eventually it'll look better when you're up close to it).

the laser thing can be a good giveaway... anyone ever played concer: live and reloaded? reminds me of the tedis and squirrel fights.

Did you read the thread? The laser will only be visible within a few degrees, so unless you're looking almost straight at it you won't see it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and this is in no way a criticism, just an observation, but isn't that blur effect the same thing as in HL2 when you are being shot by a Strider?

Yeah i wondered about this too last summer. FF's one has an additional swirl i think.
