Casbah
Hey there, I'd like to introduce myself to those who havnt seen me post or what not. Anyways, I've been mapping for about 1/2 a year, but in that time I have mapped like crazy and gotten quite a few maps out. Anyways, from the looks of it, SobeGreen was doing Casbah and he dropped out, so I was thinking, what would mapping that map be like? The intense detail and how the mapper would have to replicate it exactly to preserve the balance is enough to make a man go crazy. So I got to work. Now, I have mapped with Half Life 2, and personally I dont really like the program running through Steam and yada yada, and starting HL2. It's a witch. So I decided I'll do the basic brushwork using old Hammer, and that way I could use the textures from the original Casbah in my size comparison. Anyways... Today I did the blue spawn, and I textured it with old textures. Anyways, here's a comparison of my TFC version brushes to the original TFC casbah. Keep in mind none of this is HL2 yet.
Original: Mine: Original: Mine: Original: Mine: The Lighting isnt done, but again: ITS JUST BRUSHWORK lol. I also have a texture artist on board for making this map just as beautiful Half Life 2. EspionageDB7, my usual go-to guy has viewed the map and is willing to do the texturing. So, if things go as they have, you should have the [x7] mapping team doin Casbah. |

In the 3rd picture(not the original) the tunnel seems farther away. It looks like you made the map larger in size. But it still looks great. BTW please dont make it the same. Add some new things, take away some old things, uno? make it feel...new

It's actually a bit smaller from the ATV to the overhang, and a little longer to the out. Same distance as original overall (or about. May be off by a second of movement scout wise..)

Check my casbah topic and look in the zip I posted. I ran through the map thinking of as many ideas possible for the map. Might help you out, might not. Good luck!

Good god and I don't think I have another backup either. I knew a service that hosted files up to 3mb was too good to be true. *slaps self*
Anyone else have it? I know a few people downloaded it that I was working with when I was heading the casbah project. |

Ahh, well I looked into your post about when you started it. Casbah is not a map to do if you have little experience with the mapping. Also, Groth suggested BSPtoMap.exe .... For Shame lol. Decompilers are not good. Not good at all. Ethics wise and map wise.
Anyways, looks as if the Classic theme is winning. I got the people on board i needed and it looks like this could happen. If you do have balancing issues (problems and/or solutions), let me know via this thread. |

Hey guys, my SDK pulled an ass again and wouldnt bring my .map or .rmf of the casbah i was building with old hammer into the new hammer, (which has happened with a few other maps i have made), so I got fed up and decided to fetch a decompiler. Worked nicely suprisingly... even though its against my ethics. But then again so are crappy programs that don't bring maps you spend forever on to source.... So, the main brushwork is done..... Now to have fun with changes and vines and textures and trash and barrels. Basically sourcifying it in a nutshell.

I suggets you stick in your own pizzaz to the map, it dosent have to be a "the tank is 2mm to the left" job.
