New Map? ff_riot or ff_break

Ok so I had this idea for a map and though its not exactly a new and ground-breaking idea, the purpose of the post is more or less to find if there's anything thats been/being done like this. My mapping skills are nowhere near as skilled as everyone else but I've made 3 or 4 maps all of which failed completely so I think its (hopefully) time to cross the hill and start making better maps.

The map idea is basically a mixture of rock2 visuals and hunted or AvD gameplay. The idea is for a large group to spawn in or around the cells and they try to escape the prison by getting past the guards. Now I can't decide if the prisoners win by getting just 1 through the outside gates or if they should just do a straight hunted type game where they escort the civi or whatever. The map would include areas for demo's to blow escape routes as well as areas for guards to deploy traps for the prisoners. There should ideally be many ways to reach the one common area (probably the yard or something, who knows) and I'm all ears for ideas/criticism/flaming.

I'm by no means familiar with all the different TF maps out there considering I pubbed for 4 years but I think this could be a map I'd want to put time into. There's plenty of pictures of old prisons out there so I wouldn't be lacking in the inspiration department. Hell, I think it'd even be a fun community map but I guess I'm getting ahead of myself... anything like this already exist?

It's passingly similar to border run. Sounds kinda fun.

Yeah go for it man, that sounds like a good idea, just make sure that there is bulletproof glass so the guards/prisoners can shoot each other. Sound like a lot of fun to me.

Woah, this sounds cool. Good luck.

Just a suggestion, but you could make it so each team gets points for every person that escapes. When everyone is dead or escaped the teams switch sides and do it again.

Were you considering any hunted-like class restrictions? Like civ-only for the one who has to escape (if you go with that) or sniper/soldier only for the guards or something?

I don't think I'm exactly sure how the gameplay will pan out just yet, there's probably 3 or 4 different ways I could go about it. My thoughts were just complete the basics of the map and then figure which type would suit it best.

You could easily just make it straight hunted style where you escort the civi and earn points based on escapes. Or you could do as you said and the team would earn points based on the number of prisoners that escape. As the prisoners advance through the prison, they capture areas which will allow for new spawn points for both teams. Areas can also be recaptured to allow for the guards to retake control. The game could play out until the prisoners reach a set # of points and then the higher point total between the two teams would take the round I guess.

As far as class restrictions, it would depend on the balance in my opinion. The pre-story in my head goes somewhat along the lines of the prisoners taking the main cell area and obtaining a cache of weapons. So once you choose the prisoners, your options would ultimately probably be HW, Medic, Soldier, Sniper, and Demo. On the other side, the guards have been notified that there's a prison break/riot and its your job to squash it. You could probably include all those classes plus Engi and Spy, I guess Pyro too if that class gets balanced out like its supposed to.

Again these are all just ideas and I'm sure other people could define a better system than myself. I'm all for suggestions.

I think it would be pretty cool if you started out as a generic "prisoner class" with medium health, speed, etc, and only a crowbar. It would be a mad dash to the first objective (the armory) which would then allow you to change class. Of course, the armory would need a whole ton of ways in to avoid lockdown. It would probably be doable with the magical FF entity system! (pure guess!)

Then, there could be another objective that allows the team to get grenades. I would make this a "neutral" objective that either side could capture. It would probably need to be easy to capture, but hard to hold, to avoid spam domination.

Oh well, just ideas. I wish I didn't hate Hammer so much

It would be pretty easy to do, I would think. Not like HL2 doesn't have a millon models that would fit the theme

Extra App ID set to 211, but no SteamAppID.

Just restarted steam and started getting this error when opening hammer. Any clues? Seems all the google results seem to be dated around December 2 or 3. I had been working in it all day earlier, no probs (besides insane CPU usage).

I just started using the beta until the problem is fixed. Apparently the update they put out tonight broke it again (like it did on Dec. 2nd) or whatever. I dunno, just what I read. Beta works though.
