hl2.exe crash

Hey all, finally able to settle down and get back into FF, however no changes since I last played about 6-8 months ago and now hl2 crashes when trying to get into a server. I have not made any major changes so not sure what happened. I can run hl2.exe directly from steamapps/common/Half-Life 2 folder. I had 2 user profiles, the one I never use has a Source SDK Base folder while my main profile does not nor a hl2 folder. Also, i did try reinstalling hl but same result. Im too old and tired to spend hours trying to figure this out, so looking to all you young whippersnappers for suggestions Thanks EB

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: hl2.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 4445c334
Fault Module Name: stdshader_dx9.dll_unloaded

googled stdshader_dx9.dll_unloaded but not helped, I have win 7 with service pack 1, net framework 4.5, dx11 etc no changes made, verified cache and unistalled reinstalled etc.

FIXED
found a corrupt d3dx9_[insert_numbers].dll files

running dxwebsetup.exe did not help until I deleted the .dll's first in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 then the setup replaced them, and all was fixed, leaving this here incase someone else has this problem.
