Classes reference

I'm in the reference collection phase of my character concepts. I would like to open this thread up to any references the team might collect. Images speak louder than words to me. I'm collecting images that might inspire class physique, armor, clothing, etc. Naturally, I can't include everything, as I don't want these characters to be a collage of different ideas.

I personally want these character's bodies to be proportional to bodies that actually exist. For example, for the soldier I want his body type to be similar to Dwayne "the rock" Johnson. For the heavy, I was thinking "The Mountain" from Game of Thrones. The scout will be influenced by a track and field body type. I see these classes as athletes at the peak of their condition.

For clothing and body armor, I'm looking to gather reference from soldiers and swat teams. Their armor should reflect their class abilities. The scout needs to have very little armor so that he can be as agile as possible. The heavy, on the other hand, knows that he is going to be a slow target and should be prepared with the most armor. There's a whole range of armor between those classes. I want the armor to be inspired by what's out there, but with a new spin on it. Like if we were designing armor now with all of the knowledge and technology that we have to build armor for these future soldiers. In short, the armor should feel familiar but on the cutting edge of technology.

I have to design these characters to be consistent and use my knowledge of what works with video game characters. I have to keep in mind polycount, what kind of skeleton they will need, if we can share skeletons, how they will animate, and other constraints.

Feel free to post images, links to other references, or your comments. I will look through everything, and filter through the references to create these concepts. The silhouettes that I created are merely the start to get ideas going. As I move forward with the concepts, some will change a little, and some will change a lot. Here's your chance to influence the visual design of these characters. Thanks.

There has been a lot of discussions of the FF models needing a major revamp so this is particularly one of the areas of the new game I'd like to see given extra effort and attention. I'm not saying we should have hats, but having a little more 'personality' goes a long way. Being able to have custom skins is a feature in many popular shooter games so I'm curious to know how everyone feels about this.

I also like that you're inspired by the old school Team Fortress Classic models but I personally would rather have something with a bit more cyberpunk feel. Just a little though.

Agreed, but for the love of God, turn that pistol right side up! "Gangstas" shoot like that, not professionals!

Never been a fan of the steam-punk type graphics. I would definitely rather have some nice fresh and clean looking character models.

That or robot characters kinda like below:

Idk how to resize this on the forums, so I'll just leave the link.

Found this guy on the dirty bomb splash page. It's a little more solid than the cloth gear of our current medic, and an aesthetic that could fill out into some strong looking classes.

I don't really like the poncho looking get up, but the helmet is nice, and I specifically like the face mask.

For the armor I'd like to see sort of a more solid, "plate" look if you get what I'm saying.

Sort of like storm/clone trooper style but not a full suit of the stuff

http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2...rmor_negwt.jpg

toned down and a little more modern, with cloth visible underneath and straps for gear or what ever. Maybe like a chest piece in that fashion and then cloth/no sleeves, a gauntlet and glove like that. So it's broken up.

That's kinda how it seemed in some of the FF concept art for the scout and medic.

Like in this picture I feel like that chest piece looks like a solid plate, but it comes out all flimsy in game.

Just to be clear, steampunk isn't the same as cyberpunk. Steampunk has a more old fashioned feel(steam engines) but with a whacky twist, where cyberpunk is more futuristic. Both styles would be hybrids of machine technology and humans.

I personally don't want the players to be 100% robotic looking or 100% encapsulated in heavy armor, but that's just my preference. Having optional player skins/unlockable cosmetic wear would seemingly please most.

Nice, I like the real life references, like the combat medic action figure.
