Fighting game fans?
Any of you play fighting games?
I was gifted SSF4AE randomly by someone on Steam... I'll figure that shit out over break. But I watched some videos and it looks like a lot of fun. Do any of you have a history of fighting games? Which are your favorites and why? Any comments on the recent surge in popularity of the FGC (Fighting Games Community)? |

I used to play SC2 competitively. Such a fun game. I will pwn anyone as Kilik lol.
My favorite fighting game on the arcade would probably be some old school action with . My favorite fighting game of all time probably has to be Metal Warriors for the SNES. You can still find a copy on ebay for about $150-$200 if lucky. Other games I forgot to mention that are classics are Samurai Showdown and Primal Rage for the SNES. |

I'm not a big fan of "fighting" games, since most of them are simply "button mashing". However, WrestleMania 2000 on the N64 is a lot of fun, because it's not button mashing. You can do several combo's and reversals by knowing which button to press.... but once you are used to the controls, you can do some amazing stuff.
I was looking forward to playing WWE13 on the Wii...... the graphix are amazing. However, it's a button-mashing fest. I prefer games that require at least a bit of skill.

when just casually playing with friends, sure. but the good fighting games are grossly competitive and have a ridiculous amount of depth and no players mash, in fact they look like they are not 'doing much' to casual players because their every move is carefully caculated

I mean...you can't really think wrestlemania is the only fighting game with combos set up to specific button patterns... What you described there is pretty much any fighting game. You can button mash, but the person who knows what he's doing will always win.

You could kinda argue that any game type is button mashing when the game is easy enough to get away with it or if the people playing are bad at it.
For example in Skyrim on normal difficulty as knight you can kinda just hold w and mash mouse1 to win. Try that on hard or in a difficulty modded game and you won't last very long. As far as the topic goes, King of Fighters and basically everything SNK did in the 90/00s ftw. |

No, but that's the only one I like. Maybe I didn't make that point quite clear. Then again, I'm not thrilled with the controller set up on most modern consoles, either. So you can say that my exposure is rather limited.

I play SSBM if that counts.
I got in the 500 Beta of skull girls off of a reddit post once, but I don't like games with too much structure in them. Like to do my own things. |

I sincerely enjoy SNES clayfighter:
Only character I really like is the blob though. And I don't much care for the 64 version. Other than that the only fighting game I really get into is budokai 3. Cuz, hey I'm a dbz nerd. Soul caliber is pretty dope too though.

Also this -- 2:40. Jesus Christ. Also, you may not believe me initially, but SSF4 Volt and King of Fighters-i 2012 for iOS are awesome fighters. What developers can do on phones now is simply incredible. Tons of people online in Volt to boot; it's a hell of a lot of fun. MvC 2 is available for iOS too (played it in the arcades years ago) but it has no online multiplayer. Soul Calibur is as well, but once again, no multiplayer. Kind of defeats the purpose imo. |

HYPE Edit: This is a trailer for version 3.0 of a mod for SSB Brawl called "Project M." It has been gaining popularity over the recent months (somewhat in line with Melee's recent popularity explosion), and the entire Smash Bros. community is going nuts over it. I can't wait to fire it up with some friends in January. Last edited by CaptainAhab; 11-20-2013 at 04:39 AM. |
