Teleporters and Inertia

In TFC and I think FF, if you fall into a teleporter all your inertia is stopped and you arrive at your new destination like a spawn. In Unreal Tournament if you were falling off a cliff and teleport the inertia carrys over and you break your legs on arrival of your new destination. From a mappers point of view the lader proves more interesting... bhoppers could keep bhopping while going through a gate... someone that conc jumps right before a gate would fly out of the new destination... so could you rewrite the code? I know it'd probably take countless hours but I'm patient. Just email me whenever you get around to it.

Send a message via AIM to squeek.
Teleporting already behaves like this in FF.

As said by squeek teleports already behave like that in FF and from a skills map point of view it sucks. You could being playing a conc map where a jump requires a long forward conc but you fail to reach the required distance, land on the trigger_teleport and then constantly continue to fall onto the same trigger_teleport after coming out of the teleport destination due to the forward momentum.

I would like to see this configurable by lua, it's probably one of the most annoying things in FF with skills maps atm.

Just use a trigger push to kill the momentum or i don't know, a wall.

check out charbyda for how he did it...he put tiny little gates in front of where you spawn to stop your momentum...very clever IMO!

Fourth Dimension Portal

This is a tangent but I didn't want to make a new topic. Anyone think the Portal (video game) feature of creating holes in walls which instantly open up into rooms across the world will become a feature to mappers? I'm basically talking about manipulating physics in the sense of a 4th dimension via mapper tools.

I had the idea years back, but I'm not sure if mods will ever go there. I'd also like to see the features of TimeShift (video game) made available to mappers by altering game speed in different areas of the world. I think that'd be cool. Maybe even toy with player "size" like Mario Bros DS did... though lag might become a problem with that... Anyone else get random ideas?

That's a work around, yes, but it shouldn't be needed and you may not want a wall or a fence as it may spoil the look of the map/jump.

Did you just imply "spoil[ing] the look" of a conc map?

Really that depends on how the mapper's doing it. Some conc maps have themes, others don't. Otherwise people can just press their back key and stop all forward momentum.

Source retains velocity through teleports by default. FF's teleporters in 2.3 will too.

No need for the sarcasm, especially when there are much better looking concmaps than anything you have ever released.

My bad. Didn't mean to insult. I've never seen a good looking conc map, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I'm sure this mod could produce some beautiful conc maps with enough care.
