Poll for school report, help :)
Hi everybody, I am writing a report on an idea of time and money, basically what I am trying to find out is if people value time, over money or money over time. if you could work 80 hours a week for more money, versus 40 hours a week and have more time but less money, what would you choose?

Trick question. I'd have more money so I could afford more time off!

Voted time, but if I liked what I was doing, I could work 80 hour weeks.
I wouldn't do it *just* for the money, unless I was in a dire financial situation. |

Most peoples time is worth X amount of money. However, generally the first bit of time is worth the least amount of money (people will give you 10 seconds of their time for free) and it rises as you go. As you are nearing the limit of peoples free time, I'd think people would demand more money per hour, and when someone is already working a certain number of hours, no amount of money will attract them to working more.
Also, the more money people have the less they need more money, if that makes sense. Someone who has £100,000 might not take £5 an hour job. For example for a lot of people, the jump between earning £18k and £20k is much bigger than say £25k to £27k, this is because in the former, the majority of your money is taken up with bills, food, rent etc. Once you have fulfilled your basic needs, the extra money goes on "disposable income" which people are less inclined to work harder for. tl;dr : it depends on how much time and how much money! |

The problem is the question itself because the answer depends entirely on who you ask. If you ask 100 people living in the slums of Haiti the the answer is going to be money. If you ask 100 people who only have a month to live then the answer is going to be time.
