G20 Summit in downtown Toronto

I live in Toronto and we just hosted the g20 summit over the weekend. Since the group that posts to this section usually seems to be pretty bright on current events, I'm really just curious if this event came up in the news and what your perception of it is? (Even if you didnt hear about it)

People who 'protest' at the G20 are idiots. If you've followed the G20 for any number of years, you'll realize that the riot cops at the G20 are particularly fascist. Obviously that's a reaction to the violence from anti-capitalist protesters over the years, but really. Every G20 turns out the same way. 'Revolutionary' teenagers bemoan capitalism, and expound some Marxist sentiments, they clash with police, and then cry abuse. There, that's the G20 in a nutshell.

People who protest the G20 are idiots? Canada spent $1 billion dollars on this summit (the combined cost of the last 3 summits in London, Italy were less than half that). I don't see how protesting such a large expenditure makes people "idiots."

Most people protesting seemed to be supporting other causes rather than just anti-g20 as the media tends to frame them. Alot of protesters were pissed at the cost and the treatment by police as well as multitude of other reasons / causes (including teargassing protesters out of their designated protest zone).

It seems Canada has had a history of provoking the violence rather than preventing it anyways.
Inciting violence sure gives the authorities a great reason to act particularly fascist. Seems more like a crowd control drill rather than legitimate policing and security.

This happens at every G20, that's why I say people who protest the G20 are idiots. It's like agitating a beehive, don't cry foul when you get stung. Most people who protest the G20 fully realize this, but they don't care because it's publicity for their cause.

There are far more legitimate, non-violent ways of protesting.

Ironically, too me at least; If they were in an anti-capitalist Marxist society they would have been shot. So I guess freedom has it's advantages. For instance, you get to go out and protest capitalism and with that protest the hundreds of millions who don't live in socialist regimes who are not wallowing in REAL poverty. Not the I can afford packs of smokes, beer, cable, a computer and flat panel TV poverty. It might be more useful to get on a plane and go protest the socialist/fascist regimes that steal money, food and aid that comes from the G20 (mostly the G which is stolen, redirected and resold to and from those who need it.

Or board a flotilla and try and change Isreal's hard line policy toward Hamas in Gaza. At least I have respect for those people. Crazy ass wanna be blockade breaking motherfuckers. It's like a tiny tea party rally trying to break white house security and force Obama to retract all of last years spending. Ain't gonna happen, but I could respect the effort.

Yeah... it was pretty retarded. I live just north of Toronto and know a bunch of people who went down to protest. The people who were actually protesting did so peacefully, but a large group of middle class white kids went down just to start shit, and that's when police cars get lit on fire.

Why do they advertise where the G20 is? It seems so pointless, just do it subtly.

So that those middle class white kids will show up and break shit. Then the police will be able umbrella all protesters into the same group and fuck everyone up "lawfully" and then propagate their lies through the media so that those who have no fucking clue watching it on their 52" tv at home will think that all protesters are a bunch of hooligans who are hellbent on destruction when they see the same cop car on fire 300 times (I'm not suggesting your one of those people).

I was downtown observing the protests all weekend after those cars had already been lit on fire and windows smashed, and i saw absolutely no violence aside from that of the police.

Was it evil to laugh?

Yeah it was....

Those cops ran like 20 feets and scared the shit out of everyone. One cop fell down.

\\EDIT What do these people protest anyway? Seriously?

I wasn't there but probably just for their freedom to assemble peacefully since they were gassed out of their designated protest zone.

Lol that dude, who I am assuming is flaming as fuck and probably is the most irritating fuck in real life, was acting like he's playing with the cops nuts. I would hate to be one of those cops subjected to constant humilation and human degredation at all these protests. Then when you can't take it an snap you are fuxored.
