issue with windows 7 ultimate 64bit

so i got everything installed restarted steam and restarted my rig but when i start the game it goes to a large black screen the flickers to a small windowed style screen with a couple player models on it and the words loading and background music.

if i minimize and click the hl2 icon it will change the resolution and just have a black bar at the top left corner no matter what ive tried it will not go past the loading bar

I'm using Win 7 Ultimate 64bit and no problems. Check you have latest drivers for graphics card or even re-install them again.

Try the steam support link in my siggy. It will run a check for conflicts between your system and steam.

I'm guessing you made a back-up of your original installs. If not, when you installed Win7, there SHOULD be a directory called "Windows.old". Go in there, find your old config files, and copy/replace the new ones. I found this solved the issues I was having when I first installed Steam after installing Windows7.

ok i figured it out about 10 mins after my last post i have to force the resolution cause i run dual monitors
so i had to disable one to get it to load and from there changed the resolution to my native 1440x900 and change to windowed cause thats how i play and it loads each time now

now i need to re download ff and see if it works

Is that "driver checker" the one from driverchecker.com? Because (without looking into it) looks like a load of spyware bull to me.

Windows update in 7 gets most of the drives for you.

If you don't know what your components are, use something like Speccy ,then google them. Get them from the manufacturer site. Not something like drivers4u.com
