I'm thinking of getting a capture card. Advice!
So I want to get a capture card (a card that accepts input from a TV or compatible device and records it to the PC's hard drive), primarily to record video games and occasionally long-term storage of recorded TV.
Ideally the recording would be HD. HDMI or Component input. Of course VGA and S-Video are good too if HD isn't feasible. It does not need to be a tuner - I won't be using this for straight-up watching TV. Its sole function, regardless of features, will be recording existing content at my discretion. My best find so far is Hauppage's HD-PVR, at $250. If anyone has this, any thoughts on it? Bit of a long shot maybe. Failing that, do any of you have a capture card, or could offer any advice on one?

Just to keep in mind, most campture cards have a delay. Not an issue for watching TV, but when playing a game it's 100% imposible. You might be better off going from the system into the TV and then from the TV back into the computer.

I suppose more clarification was necessary. I'm not going to be use it to play anything. Nothing going to the capture card will be "live." It'll record, for example, replays. That's all.
But yes, I was aware of that. Thank you, though.
