Symbols on Menu Screen

One of my Russian friends (слава россии) recently reinstalled Fortress Forever and for some reason, his menu is fucked up. He said it was a problem with his registry, and that he didn't know how to fix it, but I don't see how it would have anything to do with his registry. Anyone know what the deal is?

The font we use for the menu doesn't support Russian characters (or any non-English characters for that matter). We are working on fixing that.

He didn't edit the English config, so why would it be changed? Plus, I know what the text looks like when you do edit the config file and add cyrillic characters, and it's nothing like that.

Does he have Steam set to Russian language?

Most likely, does that try to access a file like fortressforever_russian.txt when it doesn't exist?

All the menu stuff is in gameui_russian.txt, which does exist and is the same for all Source mods. It just can't display any of it because of the font. All the text that's unique to FF will be in English because there's no translation yet.
