Game functions properly, if i can join a server
The game is great (my alias is AngryCoach), but I'm having trouble joining games. the loading bar freezes about 3/4 of the way through. If I walk away from it for about 10 minutes, sometimes the game starts, other times it doesn't. Other HL2 mods do not do this. When I'm in the game and the map changes, it works fine.
What do I do? |

What are your computer specs, RAM, vid card etc..?
You might need your heapsize increase http://www.tweakguides.com/HL2_7.html

AMD athlon x2 3800+ @ 2.25ghz
1GB corsair PC3200 memory @ 420mhz ATi HD2600XT AGP it's pretty much a system that you need to start turning the settings down for games released in 2008 and on. I'll make a shortcut and add the parameters from that guide, thanks |

i'm facing the same problem here. I've uninstall and reinstalled FF but in vain.
http://img195.imageshack.us/i/hangl.jpg/ http://img7.imageshack.us/i/hang2x.jpg/ The game freeze as shown in the pics. I'm running the game on a intel e7300 dual core w/ 3gb ram and a geforce 9600 GT card. Os is Window vista. I've got team fortress 2 installed too, so shouldn't face the "sdk base" thing problem right? Any advice please? Last edited by lifer; 06-27-2009 at 05:51 AM. Reason: pics don't show |

Team Fortress 2 provides the Orange Box SDK, not the Half Life 2 Engine SDK.

Check and see if sdk base is installed if not try installing it.
I have sdk base and sdk base orange box but I don't own TF2b or any OB games but do have a couple OB mods installed.

I'm quite sure that having any HL2 game (That comes with the SDK) gives you the SDK Base for EP1 and OrangeBox.
Under Tools install the Source SDK Base. |

I've install all the source sdk i have in my steam
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/9083/hang3.jpg Also when i uninstall/reinstall the game, it works. But once i quit and try to rejoin the problem comes back... I wonder if there's something wrong with steam itself... [AE] 82694: eh so do i need to get hl2 ep1 installed? |

no he meant try installing one of the advertised mods in steam one of the source ep1 (non-OB) based mods.
That sounds like a weird problem btw. I don't know what to suggest. |

it's actually fairly common, I get the same thing. I think it's b/c of vista sucking up all of the computer's resources. It generally takes me at least 5 / 10 min to connect to a server the first time I jump in-game. After that the time gets faster and faster, but never less than like 3/4 min. ever.
Edit: And it always hangs up on the "sending client info" part of the load.

Yeah I thought you had said your specs in a previous post. Ah well
With what u got you'd be fine, should run like my PC and Laptop Same gfx as my PC with a better cpu and 1 GB less ram Lesser gfx as my laptop with better cpu and 1 GB less ram (PC runs happy with spam thanks to better CPU) I dont think the ram has anything to do with it really but yeah that heapsize.. i didn't know there was a function in game. AFAIK the "-heapsize 1572864" should work (That is 1.5GB which is probably not required)

That's really weird and I'm sure is also quite annoying. At least you can get on now though, I guess

cl_forcepreload 1
Is a good command to add to your autoexec if you choose to add heapsize to the command line. Game take few seconds longer to load into the main menu as it preloads but server connects (verifying client/sending client info) and map changes speed up. If that aint fast enought for ya install a small 10gig HD as a slave and shift windows paging files over to it turning off windows default settings so now youve got windows seperate from its paging files offloading some task load off the primary HD speeding things up. After doing this myself load times/map changes in battlefield 2 went from 2 or more minutes to 20-30 seconds on an aging rig. |
