Textures galore!

Spiral Graphics, in order to push their commercial texture-creation software "Genetica", are offering tons of royalty free tiling textures on their website. Some look a little generic, but with a little touching up they might just be what you're lacking for your map.
Bump and specular maps seem to be available as well.

Check it out at http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/packs/browse.htm ..

It's some kind of procedural/vector-based format. Looks pretty cool.

Has someone tried this "genetica viewer" to open the files?

Yeah, it exports to .tga and a few others, and you can go up to 2048 resolution. I believe the viewer comes with all the textures on that page.

I don't care much for the textures themselves; I prefer photographic sources. However they'd be a good source to build upon if you were making textures from scratch. Some of them would work as-is.

yeah looked, and I also prefer photographic stuff. I often use things I find about the web to base my custom textures on; I usually strip it of detail and use the 'tileable' pattern I get out of it (tileable... is that a word??).
