My Skate 2 Video
I'm bad ass like this guys.
http://www.vimeo.com/3142767 Or on youtube. Watch it in HD. Please excuse the first minutes shitty kickflip and grab stuff. I hit a spot until I landed it and then moved on. About 4-5 days playing for 1-2 hours a day (including the editing in game) and then about 5 minutes piecing it all together. The video is chronological. Like me.

That looks like a fun game. Too bad there's no PC port for it.
I played alot of the Tony Hawk games and really enjoyed them. Nice job on the video too. Would have been nice to see a spectacular wipeout for the last trick -Icculus |

A douche bag that invented the 900!
I still think Rodney Mullen is the shit though. He's just not as marketable as Tony. -Icculus |

I can't play Skate for shit. I just can't wrap my head around the "analog sticks control everything" movement. Too many years playing fighting games for me to be able to get around that shit in my head.

Ok, thats it, I'm gonna buy a xbox tomorrow.
I would have made more realistic tricks, but this real clean, because that is why skate is so much better than the tony hawks series. Soundtrack was pretty good |

Anything else is either a product of a spot that was just glitchy (any times where my character sort of jumped around) or animations not syncing up with what I'm doing until the last second (the snap-to animations with grinding some places). That stuff is really hard to work around to make it look smooth, especially the animation bits. Otherwise it's some pretty smooth stuff. I really wish they would have allowed you to adjust the speed of your flip tricks in this one. The only flip trick worth doing down anything greater than a 6 set of stairs is a double or triple kickflip as they generally hit right when you do. Otherwise I would have done a ton of others. Also, the online play is oodles better than the first. My biggest gripe with the game is that I >have< to do those boring, lame, stupid, dumb , retarded, dumb, gay, gay, gay races in order to unlock the last skate park. The fact that I have to do them at all to get everything annoys me. I hate stuff like that.

The music was a great choice, it matched the footage very well.
There was not enough variation within the footage, which, in turn, gave the video that this-is-dragging-on-a-bit feeling; the music more than made up for that slight negative though! Also, at 3:42, did you stop to talk to the woman? :P |

One of the things I tried to do when making this video was to hit as many stairs, large gaps, and large falls as possible. The reason for this is that it appeals the most to me. I can't stand all that techy-woo-woo bullshit partly because it doesn't look or feel natural (hence the song) and partly because all the good looking fun techy-woo-woo bullshit isn't in the game.
In other words, if I can't pull some Rodney Mullen style tech, it's not worth putting in a video. Also, vert is so incredibly boring that it's not even worth doing unless you're doing unrealistic stuff... but then that's boring to watch. So I was left with gaps, jumps, and other assorted stuff that was more of the same because, despite being a really good game, it's still very limited in what looks cool, is doable, and is dynamic. Luckily there are tons of big gaps, stairs, and other stuff thrown everywhere in the game. Also, probably one thing that made it monotonous was the fact that it's done chronologically. All tricks seen were done in order. None were cut either. There also wasn't any post-game editing besides the blending stuff and cutting some 'stall' moments out (when you download and convert them there is a bit at the end that is just a frozen last frame). In other words, if I was feeling like hitting a bunch of stairs that day, that's what got put in. If I was feeling more like manual tricks down some ramps, that's what I did. That big set at 1:11 where the vocals match the action was coincidence. But it worked well. I'm working on getting footage for another video but haven't decided on how I'm going to do it. No idea on the music, nadda. I'm probably going to go for a more aggressive music for more aggressive, techy stuff. But not so techy that it's dull.

I actually really liked (and prefer) the natural, "cruising" aspect to the footage compared to the silly shit you see in other skating games (Tony Hawks games); this was amplified by the choice of music!
I used to skateboard many years ago, until I pooped up my knee in gymnastics :P |

SanVan is different enough now, that the few things that are similar are the true gems of the first game, such as the spillway and such.
