Valve Changes Steam Ids
For those of you who may not know, Valve decided to change everyone's steam id in TF2 and DOD last night. Now if you're playing one of those games your steam id will begin with STEAM_1, but if you're playing FF you're steam id may begin with STEAM_0. Things to keep in mind as an admin if you're trying to administer multiple servers and ban lists.
Valve sucks. Scuzzy

That's not all they also broke about 5 or 6 OB mods. Stargate the last stand being one I know for sure it broke their client.dll last night.

No clue, but we ended up standardizing all steam ids in the [o-t] environment. It doesn't matter what engine you're on now, you're steam id is converted to a STEAM_1 account. Let me tell you, that was a pain in the ass. Changing the primary keys for 130k users, all their supporting records in other tables, and the software to enter them into the system was a real pain in the ass. We had to shut all our servers down to do the conversion... Freaking dumbasses.

Does this mean that anyone who plays TF2 or DOD will get their steam id's permanently changed and for all the rest of us it won't? Or do their id's temporary change when connecting to a TF2 or DOD server?

Thx for clearing that up. I got it and read some steam forum L4D and DOD threads. But I havent seen any logic behind the need to do this change.
Some speculate it has to do with SteamCloud. Someone else that they added some new auth server. But can't it also be that the id's are about to run out? Your idea of storing the 1:12345 part doesnt sound to good. How long can the last number be? Are there any limits? And I wonder if the STEAM_1 part are planned to be part of migration to SteamCloud. First protocol 48 and now this. Funny to read Quote:
Is there any secret Valve forum everybody else know about except me where all this communication takes place? |

The largest (length wise) we have is 8 digits in the last number. So, something like STEAM_1:0:12345678. Steam ids are setup as follows: STEAM_X:Y:Z X is your universe: 0 Individual / Unspecified,Y is the type: 0 Invalid / UnspecifiedZ is just you incremented id. No idea why they changed the text display of peoples from universe 0 to 1 for specific games now though... Just know it was a pain in my ass.

It sounds like Valve was trying to do some L4D ports to TF2 and forgot to disable the _1 prefix which L4D uses. >.<

Maybe that's why some of my almost completed achievements (not that I care THAT much) were reset and my unlocked stuff got unloaded...

The issue still hasn't been resolved for some mods and a second fix (to get rid of the invalid steam key size error) was suppose to be released last night but of course wasn't.
This kind of wreck less patch/updates cycle has always been an issue and probably always will
