Printer Reccomendation

So, last time I had a printer was 4 years ago at least and would like to hear some recommendations before I go hunting.

After a cheap but satisfactory home general use multi-purpose printer/scanner.

-Cost effective/none evil. Meaning none of that genuine ink cartridge only bs, that cost £1,000,000 per cartridge. And asks to be replaced way too early.

-Long lasting ink

-I'm not an avid or professional photographer so that side of things isn't particularly important.

may as well get any run-of-the-mill printer then? (pun intended)

i was looking at a Canon PIXMA iP4500 not long ago, because it has separate inks, so you only ever replace the ink that's run dry. However, i ended up deciding i dont need a printer
