Sound error?

I have my sound in a custom folder in my FF directory. When I place the location of the file in the sound box for the ambient_generic and hit play, it plays fine and locates the file. However, trying to play the sound in game returns:

Failed to load sound "sound\ff_custom\sound.wav", file probably missing from disk/repository

I'm trying to play the sound via a button's output.
Any idea why it gives me this? Any idea what to do to get the sound working?
