Well no shit. If a lossless codec is giving you bad quality you've fucked something up BIG TIME.

As for not caring about file size, lol? Do you only work with 30 second clips of video or something? I've got 768GB in this machine, and a machine on a Gb network with 5TB in it. I wouldn't even consider trying to mess with the 5+ hours of footage I sometimes have kicking around, encoded in HuffyUV.

If it just needs to "look perfect" h.264 set to lossless mode will give you a faster encode (and probably a smaller size)

If you need a good all around lossless codec for time spent editing, Lagarith will be about the same encode time and 2/3 - 1/2 the size.

If you need to archive lossless footage for some reason and have cpu time to burn use YULS and it will probably be 1/4 the size.

HuffyUV is just obsolete, just like DivX4, and just like XviD/DivX 6 is getting there.

Personally, i record a demo.
exit the game, start Fraps and play the demo and run fraps over it. Sometimes my source engine games give me problems with any recording software i have, so i send a demo to a friend of mine and he uses Xfire video recorder - its very similar to fraps.
