DVD Drive Problems
Hey,
Whenever I try to access my dvd-drive from my computer, my entire operating system always freezes up. Then, after I terminate my computer to regain control, the entire explorer.exe process and shell (start menu/desktop icons/etc) are both ended, and any manual attempts to restart them are futile. However, if I try to access the drive through other means or burn a dvd, no lock-ups occur. For this reason, I presume that the problem resides within the windows xp code somewhere. So, is anyone familiar with such a problem, and, if so, do you have any suggestions for fixing it? Thanks edit: this problem only arises when trying to read DVD's; Cd's work fine for some reaosn.... Also, could this problem be due to not installing an analog audio cable? When installing the drive a year ago, I never went through the trouble of doing so, as I thought that it didn't make a difference. |

Unplug the DVD drive and see if you have any problems.
I had the same problem myself. When I unplugged the drive, everything worked fine. Long story short, your drive is probably dying.
