quick fix for waterpolo
Until the next patch comes out, here's a couple of updated files to make waterpolo work better...
*no need for these links anymore* Not sure how much good the new FortressForever_english.txt would do if clients don't have it, though...because I imagine clients might need that updated file as well, so they can see actual sentences and words instead of # shitholes. But the lua can be updated only on the server. This newer script fixes ball bugs, gives players fortress points instead of frags, and some other stuff. Hah...so I uploaded the files from my FortressForever folder instead of my ff_dev folder.
For all 0 of you that downloaded those files before this reply, download them again for the real shit. |

While i liked the new waterpolo - the improved goalie, for instance - fps for everybody i played it with just now were horrible. large map, too many models on-screen.. i guess that kills the frame rates :/

yeah e0 ran this last night with 7 vs 7 I think and it was lagging big time. I think the hills of death need to be removed or made into a skybox, well if thats even the problem. I was getting 40 fps when I usually get 300.

It's definitely not the death hills. And I'm fairly sure it's not the map either.
However, waterpolo has HDR lighting and expensive water...which can lower fps on even the best computers. Might put a new waterpolo in 2.1 that doesn't have HDR or expensive water...maybe. Don't know for sure. I think the real problem is the same reason why FF has a maxplayers cap of 24: FF just isn't optimized well enough for shitloads of players to see shitloads of other players at the same time...doing shitloads of shit. Shit. |

i usually have 120 fps with full servers, but in some maps that have water on it like well and waterpolo my fps drop dramatically dunno why.. i would prefer to see the simple water that u see in ff_dev_2fort/ openfire_b2, rather than playing with 50 30 fps..

2.0 water polo gets insane shit lag when water splash happens.
Like, if a jump pad is built, lagfest when a ragdoll goes to make a splash and does land right, lagfest Didn't get those problems in pre 2.0 waterpolo version. Maybe we could just disable the mancannon in the lua?

Could do that, but I kinda like the man cannon in waterpolo. Especially since they're only available from the side resupply rooms.
Does that have to do with the effects level, though? In Fortress Options. Lowering that setting should reduce splashes...or at least most splashes. |

really? they did gibbing-damage in the other polo. oh, and i think the HDR needs to be tuned up or down a bit. seems a little unrealistic. but i still like it better than well

Oh no, the goalies still have unagi power for instakills, but they also don't have any armor and can't pick up resupply items. Of course, a medic/engineer can heal/repair them, but goalies would probably want to keep moving as fast as possible so as not to be easily destroyed by sitting still.
Used the same HDR settings from Lost Coast, by the way. Just not the same textures, obviously. |

ah. well, im glad it even has HDR. i think our next pritority is to have all maps have custom HDR, especcially palermo!
