Google Earth in Search and rescue?

Anyone following the search for Steve Fossett? Google Earth is, apparently, being used by some to search.

I heard a snippet this morning on the radio. I thought it was an interesting use of satellite data.

For those of you who don't know who he is Steve Fossett is the guy that does all kinds of endurance flying activities....balloon around the world and things like that. Recently his plane disappeared in Nevada during a 3 hour scouting flight.

Well, he did have 3 hours of flight time supposedly...anything is possible.
