Hmmm... have you tried uninstalling the ATI drivers, restarting, and re-installing the drivers? That might help.

EDIT: Also make sure you have The newest .net because the drivers need that.

I didn't mention .net as I figured with Vista he was already current.

Yea, I am pretty sure I have the latest .net version. 3.0, right?

...I thought 3.0 was in beta?
as long as 3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0 you should be fine. The ATI drivers need 2.0. And I don't know about Vista, but a fresh install of XP SP2 does NOT come with .net 2.0 installed. The best why to get it is manualy off the MS website.

Yeah, he's going to be looking at the Vista specific version of .net which may be causing it's own group of problems for the ATi drivers. If past experience is any indication he's got a long road ahead of him. Issues like these seem to really flummox ATi.

Here's a long thread discussing the same issue with inputs from ATI.
The link below is to the last page of the thread and one of the issues discovered was dealing with the power supply.

Just an FYI I updated drivers just the other night for XP and have had no problems (although I don't know if I've gamed since then...)

You were having the same problem? Also, what version number are your drivers now?
