Flag throwing +Dustbowl
Quick query, that I'm not sure has been covered (did a quick search for "throw", but way too many results)
Are you keeping the no-throwing flag on Dustbowl? Just something random that came to me just now. Odd occasions it would be useful. |

I'm guessing it's map specific i.e. down to the LUA.

Yep, no flag toss on DB. It would actually make it too easy, would turn it into a run and toss flag festival.

I'm no dustbowl player so I don't know for sure how it would affect game play, but what about "drop", instead of a "toss"... Would that work better? i.e. map specific: Flag throw: 0,1,2... 0 no, 1 throwable, 2 droppable...

Actualy, wouldn't dropping the flag have its advantages? If a grenade or rocket goes off while you're holding the flag it'll go flying backwards with you. However, if you drop it before that hits you (and probobly kills you) then you can at least save some ground in the attack. Or is that simply not true? It's been a little while since I played dustbowl...or tfc really. I'm just getting back in now.

dropping will make rounds go too fast
solly rj's or medic and scout concs and when still with intertia, drops flag so it continues to fly forward and player gets torn up by sg's. now flag is close and spy (if at least decent) walks in and caps. |

So... code it so that if a "drop" command is sent the item has all movement stripped from it so it falls with gravity?
Presuming a new feature would be added within the bounds of existing code without tweaking it so the feature works as planned is silly. |

Nah, it's nice when some fucktard on your team accidentally flies to some far corner and screw it up. Dropping flags will make it too easy.

IMO this wouldn't be a good idea for maps like dustbowl. First, if you allow tossing then it would be way to easy to just throw the flag right onto the cap if you wouldn't have made it otherwise and then a spy or flying med easily caps. If you allow dropping then when the defense gets a good hit that makes the carrier fly way far away or way behind the defense it isn't as effective; which again favors the offense.

OR Soldier flies in with a flag and gets shredded by an SG. He drops the flag when he is over the cap point. Another player (Scout, Spy, whatever), now has an easy cap. What if you overshoot a jump? If you land and die, you are fucked; that is where the flag is. Granted, if you are skilled you can loop back around with air control, but there are still a few "You are FUCKED" situations even for some of the best players in the game. This will remove that altogether and make it altogether less fun IMO.

You could always make it so the flag can only be "dropped" when you are standing still on the ground. That would prevent most of what people don't like about the idea, while still having a more sensible way for someone to rid themselves of the flag than suicide.
