Demo recording
Just a quick question(or two relating to one another) for the dev team:
Is demo-recording the same for FF as it is for TFC? Will voice_loopback 1 work to put your own voice in the demos? Thanks! |

I haven't tried voice_loopback 1 yet (Ventrilo you see) but otherwise demos work pretty well.
Don't bother taking demos of yourself blasting ragdolls around though.

I'm assuming that the demo stuff will be the same as other HL2 games. I can't wait to start watching the demos with demo drive function to see some crazy battles in 3rd person.

FRAPS also takes up tons of space, it's nowhere near a "tiny fps hit", it's more like halving your FPS. I use GameCam, it puts some shit watermark in the corner but you can record the entire match and take up very little space of course you get the obvious negative of your footage being compressed but that's fine since youtube or whatever you upload it to will rape the quality anyway.

And you only really need it if you're blasting ragdolls around, as demos work well otherwise.

I've found that recording a demo of the game first and then recording the demo with something like FRAPS or GameCam is much better on the system for reasons I don't quite understand myself. Though, FRAPS will only halve your FPS if you set it to 30fps recording when you only get like 10-40 as is. If you have a fairly decent system (averaging 40+ fps), and run fraps at say 20/30 fps recording, you should be fine; the real killer is the uncompressed AVI files that it saves to. <3 the power of windows movie maker to compress to wmv format. GameCam was nice and all, but that watermark gets really annoying, i'll say that; and typically they don't bother me.

Gamecam sucks compared to FRAPS, though, as it only works with games instead of working with everything.

Gamecam takes away less fps from me but it doesn't work with Xfire.
I'd use FRAPS for any serious recording though. |

Will it actually show the blur and the dizzyness effect when conced on a recorded demo? That could be annoying when making movies, so I have been kinda wondering that.

As long as you have the HD space, FRAPS is the way to go. After editing the video to how you want it, I suggest using Bink for compressing as it provides an excellent quality to size ration, as well as embeds it's player in the video it self. So it can be opened on any system.
