Closest thing you'll get to TFC on HL2...for now...
HL2CTF
Just spent 3 hours on the damn game. It is fast paced like TFC, explosions going off like a madhouse bridge war on 2fort, and is barely even lowering the FPS, maybe by 5 more then what standard HL2 does. The dev team of FF said that the current build of FF isn't taxing on players (check the "FF is going to rape everyone's computers" thread in general discussion). Think of it as fast-paced TFC gameplay without classes, and NO lag like HL2DM, even if you have like 32 player server going. It's fun as hell. It'll hold you over thats for damn sure. http://www.hl2ctf.com |

Most of the HL2CTF maps have HUGE fps issues.
2 fort gets an fps drop of 35 at one spot on my pc (P4 2,8ghz, 512mb ddr pc3200, radeon9800pro256mb 256bit). The whole map is rendered if stand under the flag "but 30ft forward". I seriously doubt that they have made ANY optimization on that map... no occluders, no hinting, no fade distance... It's a shit job, pure shit. Some of the other maps have issues too but this one is the worst (the big outdoor brown-with-grey-walls-map could use some serious hinting). Still... I like HL2CTF very much, even as many of the maps are newbie-made. (not all) /Spader |

I love hl2ctf.
I love flag passing with the grav gun. In one map our team was able to set up relay points. I would run as fast as I could, grab teh enemy flag and while under fire drop it. I would quickly grab it with my gravity gun and send it flying over the map. It would land about mid point on the small map and the next guy would pick it up and lob it further towards our base. THe last guy would grab it and run it home. Our team totally stomped the other team using this strategy. As soon as we would get the flag we would toss it over the wall as far as we could grav gun it and pass it all the way to our flag. At one point in the game, I was the man in the middle running the flag. As I grabbed it I saw gunfire and knew I was dead so I quickly dropped it, grabbed it, and as soon as I hit fire on the grav gun, the screen went red. I was sure that I had just lost the flag but as I watchd my corpse fall over I saw the flag flying through the air and then heard "Combine flag taken. Combine flag captured." It's also fun to try grav gun jumping and surprising the enemy. On CTF_Dirtwork there is a place to escape the enemy after grabbing the flag. YOu can hop down but can't come back up due to there being no ladder. I used a barrel and popped out of the hole, surprising one enemy as I rushed over and grabbed the flag. It is also amusing to run through the sewer until it dead ends with enemies on your tail. They see no ladder so they have you cornered. You drop the flag and then toss it up into your enemies capture area and someone else grabs it and makes the capture. Lambda Bunker is great with physics and slams. I had a blast setting up a barrel trap for the enemy. When they arrived as a three man flag rush, I detonated my slams and sent about 4 or 5 barrels flying at high speed. One connected with the enemy and took one guy down. My friends dispateched the other two. |

The only problem with that is actually getting people organized enough to set up a system like that. For the most part, people treat HL2CTF as HL2DM with flags. But I suppose in time people will come to realize how to do stuff.
